I don't think there's an ego trip going on at all.

It's not like she paints herself as some kind of hero.

i guess i saw it that way because she is the main character, and 80% of the screen time is hanna.

Just saw the first chapter of season 2, i hope this picks up soon because that one was pretty boring.

Last night's episode was excellent. Hilarious. Awkward in all the right ways. Characters progressed. New information revealed. Great pace. Super well written. Everyone gets a scene to shine. Great episode. Probably my second favorite episode of the season. Of course, I've only seen all these episodes once. Let me watch them all a again before you lock me into a ranking.

But how is that different to something like Curb Your Enthusiasm or Louie or even Bored to Death (except for the fact the real Jonathan Ames doesn't actually star in that himself)?

Because those characters are men.

The male characters on this show are just as well written as the female leads. I really enjoyed this week's episode.

well you just gave me more examples of the same thing. And we should add Woody Allen to that list.

Not that Lena is anywhere near those guys either..( she is better than Ames for sure though)

So glad someone else said it. I've been sidestepping it this whole conversation.

It was nice to see Adam in that dinner scene. His character and how the layers get peeled away with each subsequent episodes is one the best things about the show.

Hannah's OCD is another telling layer to her character. I'm not sold on how they are pulling it off but it certainly makes things more interesting with her.

Totally agree about Adam. He's one of my favorite characters. I keep telling my wife how hard I'm going to laugh when Adam ends up being the "hero" of the show.

The OCD was handled really well, I thought. I expected them to make it an attention-grabbing device, like she was putting it on. I love that they made it a part of her back story and found a way to reveal it that wasn't too retcon/expositiony.

I haven't enjoyed the past few episodes as much as some of you but I still dig the show. I'd like to see more therapy scenes with Hannah; when well done those always play strongly. Same with the interactions with her parents.
I read the Rolling Stone article on Dunham and she mentioned how as an adolescent she went through a phase where she obsessed on the number 8 so it was kinda cool to see that pop up in the show.
