I have the Ortofon 2M Red and also the Denon DL-110. Both are considered carts that performed beyond their price. Between the two I prefer the Denon. I've played both extensively on multiple tables and while the 2M Red is incredibly detailed it also doesn't track as well on tougher passages or dirty records. The Denon DL-110 has the same great detail, but has that dead-quiet soundstage. To simplify, you know when you start an album you hear a bit of scratchiness before the first song starts? Well, the Denon doesn't do that.

If you can spend the extra $40 over the Ortofon, I would highly suggest it:

I might grab some new bookshelf speakers next week (space is a problem in my apartment, so can't invest in a larger set yet), and these have good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RMPHMU/ref ... B002RMPHMU

If I was going bookshelf I'd look into an old pair of Dynaco A-25s.

Those look a bit cheap. Pete's right, for $50-$75 you can get a nice pair of quality vintage speakers. I still have my Dynaco A25's in my basement setup and will probably keep them forever even though I got them for under $100 off craiglist.

I still can't believe I landed a pair of A-50s for like 150 bucks off craigslist.

I've searched for those before, but haven't gotten any good hits. I'll save an eBay search!

So I replaced the cord that connects the receiver and table due to a prong getting bent. It seems the ones I bought to replace are a lot 'buzzier' than the original set. I didn't really figure price would matter but did I cheap out? Is it not grounding properly?

Did you knock a ground wire off the receiver and/or the turntable?

No. Both ends are pretty tight. If I simply touch the back of the grounding pin on the table it stops the buzzing though.

Yeah, because when you touch the grounding pin your body acts as the ground. Grab a piece of copper wire (speaker wire will do), wrap one end around the grounding pin and the other around something metal nearby.

Mrs Rangi bought me some of these play and display things on Friday - they're pretty cool

Also - gave Roit Act a decent spin over the weekend. I have not given this album the respect it needs...

PiL Flowers of Romance. Such a brilliant, fucked up record.

Do any of you guys have that semi-widely available vinyl pressing of Badmotorfinger from Europe from the early 2000s? I think it's from Holland? How does it sound?
