Rank the Albums: Results Thread!

Post by Thejambi »

I have compiled data from the "Rank the Albums" thread and compiled the official ranking of all the Pearl Jam albums. I included all rankings that didn't require anymore effort than a copy/paste into excel. Some people have more than one list included because I only cared so much. I'll update with several useless observations as time goes on.

Post Lightning Bolt rankings:

1. Vitalogy
2. Yield
3. No Code
4. Vs.
5. Ten
6. Binaural
7. Riot Act
8. Lightning Bolt
9. Pearl Jam
10.Backspacer

Rankings based on a simple 1-10 point scale based on what place they were ranked

1. Vitalogy

3. No Code

*Time measured in days

29% numbered their list.

4 people didn't include all 10 albums.

Self Titled and Backspacer were only referred to as a POS once each.

Misspellings: Binaural x4, Avocado x3, Yield x2, Lightning Bolt x2

5 people believe Lost Dogs should be considered.

What about the percentage of people who call it Avacado? I'm afraid it'd be greater than 22%.

Interesting that Ten has slipped and Binaural has overtaken it.

From previous over-analyzing that I completed after the LB leak but before LB was released -
http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtop ... =15&t=2139

RM consensus from this was:
1. Vitalogy 931
2. Yield 900
3. Ten 875
4. Vs. 817
5. No Code 813
6. Binaural 781
7. Riot Act 705
8. Pearl Jam 571
9. Backspacer 485

The general opinion was that LB would end up between Binaural and Backspacer somewhere.

I suppose the next logical step after the dull-eyed insight-void that is an endless string of "That album is my most firsterest one of all" statements is to add up all the firsterests, and glean nothing at all from them.

There's no way to know this for sure, but I wonder at what point most people, when making their lists, felt like they were getting diminishing returns. For example, Riot Act may not show up on my list till 6 or 7, but that doesn't mean I dislike it, or think it's a failure in any way. It's great; they've just made a bunch of records I think are better. I wonder where most people make the turn from, "it's lower on my list, but still great," to "these albums aren't all that good." Maybe that turn never happens for most people.

Probably around the time a certain attempt was made at grasping for more currency.

Yeah, I mean, I'd hazard the guess that for S/T and Backspacer, at least around these parts, they'd be past the dividing line. It'd be more interesting to know for those middle records.

The only album I have a hard time getting through is Self-Titled. I enjoy all the others in various degrees.

Very impressive work. I agree with the list.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?
