Elam is one of those love/hate guys, exactly like both of you describe. He's a high energy guy and makes huge hits and big plays. But he takes way too many personal foul penalties. He's that guy that will get a 15 yard penalty one play and then make up for it by forcing a fumble the next.

I'd still gladly take him, though.

How's his tackling, though? It seems that when a guy is known as a huge hitter, it also means that he's a poor tackler that doesn't wrap up and lets his guy go when he misses. I can handle a 15 yard penalty once in a blue moon but the real killers are the 20+ yard gains that happen due to a missed tackle.

I remember him being a lot more efficient in that area than say.... Baccari Rambo who would be a similar type of player but not as good as Elam.

I think Elam's value as a playmaker outweighs the negative of being a poor tackler. That said, with the new rules being what they are I think tackling will become a premium over the next decade in the NFL.

OK, then that's not a big problem for me in the long run. Once he commits a couple of those stupid penalties his rookie season, any coach worth a damn will chew him out, make him run laps, etc.

EDIT: Also, the NCAA's excessive celebration rules are draconian bullshit, so that's another reason for me to give Elam leeway in that department.

So Dwayne Bowe finally agreed to a long term deal with the Chiefs. Like I've said before, fans like d,t should keep on being a bit more optimistic with Kansas City. I know that I'm more nervous that the Broncos might actually have some decent competition in the division next year.

I found it fitting that the first player that they took a TD away from for celebrating was a punter.
