I'll get this immediately, but the combination of my disappointment over 10k days and the huge gap has driven me apart from tool. They used to be my third favorite band. It'll be interesting to see if they can win me back

At this point, I'm starting to think they're TRYING to lose their fans... but just out of curiosity, what did you not like about 10K Days? Other than some production issues, I thought the music was outstanding!

It felt derivative, and other than a handful of songs (mostly the first 4), I thought the music was pretty uninspired. When you only have 3 full record in 15 years or whatever it was, you can't afford an album like 10k days.

Sure, it's no Lateralus. Nothing is, but I think everything on 10K Days is outstanding. Also, I know I'm in the minority here, but I base my love for any music on what's already been released, not on how long it takes to release it. If TOOL never released another song, it wouldn't change my 'fandom'

I may have felt that way if the last record was lateral us (or anima, which is my favorite), but i10k days was the first time tool disappointed me, and so it's harder with a bad taste lingering.

I return to songs on 10, 000 Days more than those on Lateralus

I definitely agree with this. And I've listened to Aenima more than almost any record. I still get a kick out the best songs on Aenima.

Ever see them before? They're great live, but it's been virtually the same tour/setlist combination since 2006... it's exhausting that they're rolling out this same 'circus sideshow' year after year.

How was it?

Couple times in the 90's, and then this was my 3rd show since '10... (Sacramento '10, opening night Reno '12, and last night. Reno '12 was probably the best. All 3 were solid though.

On one hand I agree with your set list complaint. But it's like the old Pearl Jam argument..... 30 songs digging deep in the vault with Ed fucking most of them up, or 15 standards done tight as fuck... I love each band for both styles. That's why I have shit tons of boot audio and video from each band

It's as not as though their setlist has remained literally exactly the same throughout that period, though.

Last nights concert was identical to the one I saw in May last year - same songs, same order.... They could try mixing things up a little

They're amazing live - stupidly tight show. I had a good run last year and over the space of a few months managed to see Puscifer, APC and Tool
