Agreed, they're fantastic.

One of Ed's best recorded performances.

What the hell, Cold Confession it is.
Go listen to the Dead Man on your 2006 Euro mix you'll change your mind!
Oh yeah, I'm only taking into account the studio versions of all these songs -- or at least, the ones that have studio versions.
Me too. And that helps Dead Man even more.

I'd tend to agree. Meaning that I don't recall many (if any) really great live versions of Dead Man. The studio cut great.

Very few Pearl Jam songs suck me into the narrative and emotional space as Dead Man does. This song embodies everything Ed/Pearl Jam has forgotten how to do. It is overall a very simple song in structure, composition and concise in lyrics. It travels twice as far on half the gas.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

dead man is one of those songs I never liked. It wasn't until I started posting here that I learned people actually care about that one.

I'm not really surprised that this is so close; I really like Cold Confession, and I was actually looking forward to voting for it (at least in the first round)...but I didn't know it was up against Dead Man. I think Thejambi was able to express what I love about this song a few posts up: "It is overall a very simple song in structure, composition and concise in lyrics. It travels twice as far on half the gas." I'd add: it doesn't even sound particularly well-produced, but the lack of polish helps its gritty feel.

Also the first song I ever saw anyone from Pearl Jam perform (Mansfield I 2003).

Cold Confession man.

Dead man is OK for what it is. But what it is is an ed solo song..

Cold Confession is/was new ground for the band as a whole.
