It is hair metal though. Bon Jovi is pop rock to be fair.
Why are PJ fans hair metal? Why would they be appealing to them?

No, but it's a step in that direction for sure.gems and rhinestones wrote:That isn't Bon Jovi. Huge difference.Mine wrote:They did cover Van Halen and Kiss, didn't they?
In 2010 when Pearl Jam covered Van Halen's Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love for the first time, they prefaced it by saying it was an idea Ed had, Jeff immediately said it was a terrible idea, but for the fun of it they all agreed to do it "one time, one time only".
Fast forward 3 years and they cover it again and Eruption is in their touring rotation.

Maybe it's just my lack of knowledge if Bon Jovi but I have no problem picturing Bon Jovi doing Sirens. They could throw it in after Always.

Maybe it's just my lack of knowledge in Nickleback but I have no problem picturing Nickleback doing Even Flow so this must somehow be making a point about something I guess.

Lyrics are a weak counterargument. I was making a stupid joke more than implying that something from 10 sounds like hair metal.stupidmop wrote:Yeah Bon Jovis best songs have always been the ones about incest.

I had to get over the cheese sound and the structure. That could be what you mean. After maybe 5 listens, I was struck simultaneously by the incredible lyrics and the musical depth. I love it now, but it's still a weird and unique one.stip wrote:I think for most people they had to get over the hair metal part to even get into sirens. That's why we had that phenomena we saw here of people hating the song at first and the pm getting sucked into it.

Maybe it's me, but I don't really hear much hair metal in Sirens, besides the solo at parts. It's way more that kind of 3 Doors Down/Nickelback 2000-era crap rock that I hear.

I'm not so sure I know anything about how he is outside of the limelight because I've never met the man. However, in the limelight, he still seems to embody those things. Additionally, his writings suggest a pretty aware individual i.e. someone I'd feel comfortable hanging out with.Thejambi wrote:I liked him better when he was trying to be humble, down to earth and relate-able.

I saw Brad at a small club in TX, back in 1997. Stone was wearing a VH necklace and they played Change. BTW, isolate the vocals for any band, and there's a good chance it sounds stupid. Sound engineers who leak that kind of stuff out are meanies.

But whatever. I like you (so far), so I'll drop it.
So like...hair metal, bros. Right?
Honestly, if Pearl Jam made a straight up hair metal album in 2014, 95% of the dude-bro segment of the fanbase (which is a huge segment of the fanbase) would think it was the greatest thing ever. If they went out and covered Pour Some Sugar on Me or Welcome to the Jungle or Livin' on a Prayer at every show for the rest of their lives, most of this fanbase would fucking love it.
