Not much of a chance for most songs compared to Off He Goes... The ultimate poetic narrative set to great music. Top shelf.

I can't stand the lyrics to off he goes. Cloyingly narcissistic and self-referential. And far too precious. It's too bad, because the music is lovely

I think it's about Young Neil... Whether that's true or not, it makes the song so much better... You should try it.stip wrote:I can't stand the lyrics to off he goes. Cloyingly narcissistic and self-referential. And far too precious. It's too bad, because the music is lovely

Actually, I recently heard that this song is the ultimate poetic narrative. You must be missing something.stip wrote:I can't stand the lyrics to off he goes. Cloyingly narcissistic and self-referential. And far too precious.

Just curious: what about this song do you find narcissistic? Just the fact that the song is purportedly about Eddie himself? I've always thought it was kind of self-denigrating, if anything.stip wrote:I can't stand the lyrics to off he goes. Cloyingly narcissistic and self-referential. And far too precious. Re: Match BN: Foldback vs. Off He Goes
I don't really see any difference between what Ed's doing on this song lyrically and what was going on in Vitalogy. It doesn't feel to me like there's anything inherently narcissistic about the lyrics themselves in this song.
Anyways, Off He Goes for me. It's not an all-time favorite, and I don't usually tend to seek it out, but whenever it comes on I remember all over again why I like it.

Dont get him started. That way only leads to madness. Its best just to write it off as another Stipism and move on.Blaine Ryan wrote:Just curious: what about this song do you find narcissistic?
