Lightning Bolt (song) kicks ass.

-Matt's drums in the beginning are great, they seem to envelope me as the song gets going.
-The main guitar riff is great, I like these angular sounding guitars.
-Love the lasers at several parts in the song.
-Ed's "YA GOTTA KNOW YOU'LL NEVER LET HER GO!" is awesome.
-Song is interesting structurally.
-Mike's early solo is cool, though it could be better, does a good job of lifting the song, but the actual solo is kinda lacking.
-Pretty groovy, I like the grooviness.
-The song has a certain kind of spacey feel to it, reminds me a bit of Binaural, I wish this spacey feel was more pronounced.
-Fade out sucks.

Heard this on the radio the other night. Just like with MYM, it sounded almost like a different song. The mix sounded so much dirtier and the guitars much more pronounced.

Can you post a link to the radio version?

I'm still really digging this album, but Lightning Bolt is the one that feels like it could have been more. The "new wave" style production takes some of the power out. Great song all around though.

this song is like being hit in the face with a 3 foot party sub and having an ice water enema at the same time

Oddly enough, this is exactly what Ed & Sean Penn do before they go helicraptering. They each down a three footer, take an enema, and then then let it rip from high in the sky.

Ed's sub will be caviar and hot sauce

Sean Penn's will be jalapenos and oysters

makes 'em extra shitty while retaining their 1 percenteryness

"helicrapter" will be the next great vocal ad lib sung to the tune of supersonic, while helicraptering

Helicrapter, gotta feel it now
I need to hear it, need to feel it loud, yeah

"Helicrapter" would easily make the Elite Eight of the March Madness Tournament. With a favorable match-up it could even make the Final Four.

I think Getaway would have made such a much better single. I like Lightning Bolt, but it's not as instantly catchy as Getaway. Everyone I've played it for instantly has liked it.

Got to say, I really like when lyrical meanings challenge me enough to come online and seek opinions. This is one I think I have pegged and then I hear something and it makes me see it entirely different.

For some reason, I think this song may actually be about new technology. Think "addiction" to mobile phones, twitter, or facebook. Then read the lyrics. Curious if anyone else could see that:

She comes on like a stone
But you don’t know where from she was thrown
Like a burning meteor from miles high
Looking for a place to land
She said "Have you got yourself some sand?"
And whatever you’d reply she took as yes

Now she comes out the deep
With her newly planted seeds and soon you’re
Thrown down on your knees and then you’ll dig
And then before you know the weeds are obesely overgrown
With all the wild seeds she sows in your sleep

You gotta know you’ll never let her go
She's a lightning bolt!
Lightning bolt!

Lightning bolt!

Always something and never nothing
Isn’t that the way we’re taught to be… to be
Flipping through the worn out pages
And stages when you knew not who to be
Yeah Yeah
Until the lightning strike sets you free

You gotta know you’ll never let her go
She's a lightning bolt!
Lightning bolt!
Lightning bolt!

The crashing stormy waves erode her shoreline everyday
Until the castle of her ways turns to sand
She holds her lovely breast as her birds fall from her nest
Flying towards the great northwest
And with no repair in sight
There is no god with such might
As you open her world wide with such a view
And your death will soon arrive as she finally decides
That all her problems, they won’t die with you

A-yeah!… A-yeah!… A-yeah!
Never let her go
She’s a lightning bolt
Never let her go
She’s true

She's RKO
She's a lightning bolt
Uncontrollable
Like you[/i]

those aren't the right lyrics, and I see no correlation with technology.
