Yeah, basically what everyone else has said. I'm glad Marty and Rust's story is tied up, but there are enough loose ends to remind us that the darkness is always going to be there. Can't wait for season 2!

I like how, even though this was the finale, there were still a bunch of red herrings thrown out there for us to chew over. When Errol started speaking without his deep-bayou accent--in fact, in what almost sounded like a British accent--I wondered if there was another layer of the conspiracy we hadn't unwrapped yet--is he an import, someone who isn't related to the branching family and maybe pulling strings from the outside? In the end, it's pretty apparent that this isn't the case: that just seemed like an air that he'd put on to feel superior to his sister/half-sister/bang partner. And the little kid looking up at him on the playground, my God--I was worried that when Marty and Rust finally got to the compound, there'd be a bloodied, abused kid for them to expose. But even though we didn't have to sit through that, it certainly demonstrated how Errol's simple demeanor helped him make children's defenses fall around him (maybe even causing them to befriend him). This guy got less than 20 minutes of screen time in an 8-hour series, but little things like this went a long way for characterization.

Honestly the mountain of bloodied childrens clothes was probably the most gruesome thing iver ever seen on television or movies.

So as IHRM, I wrote this on Feb 22nd 2009 about my dream of death:

What transpired next was a sudden shift to black. Everything was black. And there was no sound. But my state of consciousness was intact. I know so because I was still in that state of panic. Everything that I thought about beforehand collapsed into one focal point...me and me alone. Fear engulfed me. I was still in panic mode but now it was taken down to a slight whimper. I was no longer tense like I was when my eyes were open, but rather relaxed. Then after a moment of pause I started to be aware of my consciousness, and how light weight everything seemed. I got so relaxed that it was as if I was lying in a bowl of Jell-O. It’s as if the road that got me there started on the top of a sky scraper that I was afraid to walk off of, but once I did, I began to walk on air.

The comfort of touch and feel from someone you love ran through me, as if I was an infant being bathed by my mother in a sink. My consciousness was all I was aware of but it seemed to take on a physicality state. And it was a physical ecstasy I felt. An overwhelming sense of universal love took my anxiety away. It suddenly occurred to me that I wasn’t alone in this darkness but rather that love elevated me to an incomprehensible oasis, inside and a part of this radiant aura of everything that is right and simple. This place had a consciousness and it was right there with me.

And that was when I was still in the dark.

Yeah, I loved that the British accent was thrown in there, and I'm fine if there's never an explanation for it. Great show.

I believe the creator mentioned in an interview somewhere that he mimicked others' voices to relearn how to speak after his accident that left all the scarring.
