Just Breathe is a lovely song, and the catalog is better for its inclusion.
It's a nice enough song but the performance is not particularly good. PJ doesn't do this song well. Jeff's bass is almost a piss take of country and the strings are nauseating. Throw in a few ah huhs and I find I'm skipping the track. They've done simple heartfelt tracks better before. From first listen I thought this should have been a Vedder solo track.

As for their catalogue, yes the more textures and moods offered the better. But I usually skip 5-10 tracks from their entire catalogue and Just Breathe is one of them. (and Stip, another of your beloveds is also on that list. Wishlist)

This is almost a new thread.

Hey Foxy (I choose to believe that this track never existed. Vitalogy ends with Immortality).
Mankind and I'm Open. And sometimes Habit. But never Sometimes.
Wishlist
Soon Forget
Bushleaguer/Help Help/1/2 Full/Arc. (I'll post my alt Riot Act tracklist one day. Album plus ep.) Thumbing My Way often pisses me off too.
Gone and Inside Job
Just Breathe/Supersonic/The End. And the final notes of the ATW solo gets me reaching for the skip button but it passes quickly enough.

But their catalogue is richer for all of these songs. It's just that I don't want to hear them.

I play this album more than any other PJ nowadays. Sure there are some production issues and a couple of 3star songs but it's a damn fine album. (and I'd love to hear a Nigel Godrich production of Parachutes like Beck's Seachange.)

I mean, how much can you guys seriously talk about in this thread? You rank the album, you leave. You can't change anyone's mind about their ranking.

HEY, LET'S RANK THE FONT STYLES USED ON EACH ALBUM!

I figure 13 pages in, someone had to bring up some point along the way based on a list.

Definitely a logical follow-up to Backspacer then

You have Ten too high and No Code too low. But you're coming around.

I do think there's at least some aspect of every Pearl Jam record I can enjoy except for Backspacer. The (admittedly somewhat limited) charms of the self-titled record became more evident over time, I think it and Riot Act have a similar ratio of good songs to misfires in retrospect, but Backspacer actually seems even slighter than it did on release. It's dull, featureless and forgettable music. While I might say I would never have persisted with Pearl Jam's post-Yield output were it not for the fact that it was made by a band whose work I've previously enjoyed, I can't even muster up that level of half-hearted enthusiasm for Backspacer. I can't think of any other band I've ever followed as a fan presenting such a dramatic change in regards to how enjoyable I find their work without some other explaining factor like a major line-up change.

It's a really weird record (and not in the good way.)
