Re: Pono Music
I'm actually really excited about this. I'd been planning on buying one as soon as they were available anyway, so I jumped on the PJ edition almost immediately yesterday.
Re storage:
The PonoPlayer ships with a total of 128GB. 64GB of memory is built into the player and another 64GB of memory on a removable microSD card. The expansion slot can accept microSD cards of up to 64GB each. Unlike many other portable music players, the microSD cards are designed to be easily swappable. For example, you can build a library of various playlists or genres on different cards and simply swap them in and out, much like you'd swap game cards on a portable gaming console. So in reality you have infinite capacity on the PonoPlayer.

Re: Pono Music
damn, the pj one is gone. I imagine that thing could hold good resell value if these things take off
I really like this idea but I will wait a while to see how it plays out and maybe a second generation player

I bought the Pearl Jam one. At the very least I'll get all of Pearl Jam's albums on it. If it sounds great I'll go big time. I would have got a standard one for $399 anyway so having the Pearl Jam signature one for $400 was not a hard decision.

That's what it says. I hope they don't let Mike pick a hair metal bands album lol. I am expecting either Neil Young, Ramones, The Who or an REM album. But who knows, maybe they mean 2 Pearl Jam albums.warehouse wrote:doesnt each artist put their 2 favorite albums on it?

I'd say it's not a success until everyone hears it and thinks it sounds amazing. The kickstarter campaign appears to be a huge success already.VinylGuy wrote:so, this is a success?

Re: Pono Music
They would be smart to put another 1000 Pearl Jam Pono's up. I think they would go quick. Of course the people who plan on putting them on ebay would be pissed.Strat wrote:I want one

So if someone posts a link to an article written as to why it isn't a waste of time, then what do we do?theplatypus wrote:http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

Read both articles and make up your own mind.gems and rhinestones wrote:So if someone posts a link to an article written as to why it isn't a waste of time, then what do we do?theplatypus wrote:http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

This article is very thoroughly researched. It details how 24/192 FLACs are essentially snake oil. It is not about regular, 16-bit FLACs.

Re: Pono Music
Mastering is by far the biggest factor.
A great-sounding, dynamic 16-bit file is going to sound miles better than a compressed-to-hell-and-back master at 24-bit.
