I wouldn't mind that, it's a flag that embodies the Aussie fighting spirit.

Plus, we'd all get to laugh at those douchebags that have the redundant southern cross tattoos.

Yup - can't think of anything worse. Stereotypical rugby fans represent the worst in our society - and that'd just make it worse

I think it's about trying to give us a flag that we can stand behind as a nation or some crap like that - along with it currently being almost identical with the Australian flag. There's still a lot of old doodes who fought int he war that are against it as the current flag reminds them of their time as hired killers or something

i see what you mean about the two flags looking very similar. are there entries for possible new flags? i've already exhausted myself in the google search i did to look at the two of them.

You are tied together by perhaps the finest of drinking holidays. And "hired killers" remarks notwithstanding, between you and the Aussies, you were the finest English speakers whose blood was shed unecessarily at Gallipoli, so that's something. Lastly, any sort of subtle variation of the union jack seems to be a requirement unless you write the queen out of your constitution.

I think we will be a republic by 2030 but damn this surge in royal popularity may hinder it yet gain. 1999 seems an age ago but that night feels like yesterday. Utter dismay.

I am a Western Australian and that's the first I've seen of that. Great speech. I find it quite astounding that this wasn't bigger news, except that I don't. Tony Abbott is a media-controlling cock-knocker and I am ashamed that he is our PM.

This vid is from when Abbott was election campaigning and the old guy here is one of my heroes:
