Harmless, what kind of "post-rock" are you into? I know you like Sigur Ros, and I think I've seen you post a few times about Mogwai and Godspeed. Freshness depends on what you're familiar with. I don't really follow the scene much, but I can think of a few bands who toy with formula a bit or a lot. El Ten Eleven, The Pirate Ship Quintet, Grails, and Dirty Three for a start.

So, I know I mentioned El Ten Eleven earlier in this thread, but I figured they need some more exposure, especially since they've got a new EP coming out next week.



First rack, "Nova Scotia" is pretty sweet. Nothing out of the ordinary for them, but they're consistently ace.

I don't know if anybody on here has ever heard of this band, but I think they'd be well-liked among those who are into "post-rock."

Passenger existed for a short time in Chicago in the early '00s; they went through a number of line-up changes and apparently had an album titled Alive very early on, but by 2005 had settled into a four-piece line-up and were working on a two-disc concept album called The Owls Are Restless. The concept was sort of loosely similar to Watership Down, and centered on a centuries long war between owls and rabbits. The drummer, Sam Vincent, was the main architect of the concept, and was writing a detailed story to accompany the album.

Anyway, a short time after the recordings were finished, Sam tragically passed away and the band broke up never to officially release the album. Fast-forward a couple years, and a guy who helped out with the recording posted the album for download on the old After the Post-Rock forum, fully sanctioned by the surviving members of the band.

I'm posting about Passenger, partly because they've been coming up on shuffle when listening to music on the computer, and partly because I think anyone who has more than a passing interest in "post-rock" will like them. These guys were really good. I feel that if Sam hadn't died, Passenger would have gone on to big things. They may even be talked about in the same breath as Godspeed, Mogwai, EITS, and other big name instrumental rockers.

Good to see they're still working on it, I guess...

Enjoy Eternal Bliss is still a really good, if not a little bit formulaic, album. I'm curious if this going to contain some of those more vocal-based tunes they were playing over the last however-many years, like "A Pinch of Lynch," or if it will be more instrumental stuff.

I may as well mention Cult of Luna as one of my favourite post-metal / post-doom bands, if this thread extends to that.

I don't know if I'll even bother to check this one out when it arrives. For My Parents was dull and unmemorable and the album before that wasn't much better. These guys were never great, but they at least caught some magic with You Are There.

I think One Step More and Walking Cloud were the peak for these guys. Beautiful albums
From You are There forward it was always just more of the same.
