I don't hate Severed Hand, but I definitely don't love it. I fucking love In the Moonlight.
Same here. I just figured In the Moonlight would definitely be ahead.

i dont get the 'in the moonlight' love at all. its got a cool riff, but just sounds like its trying too hard to be a sludgy kinda song. its like they wrote it to impress josh homme.

i dont think 'severed hand' sounds like pj by numbers at all. i think it sounds pretty organic and has one of my favorite pj bridges.

if they were trying to impress Homme, they should do that more often.

unfortunately, for most of the past decade, they've been trying to impress this guy way too much:

It was the first song Matt Cameron brought to the band. So probably 1998/1999.

The verses of Moonlight need to feel like a walk through damp-floored woods at night, just so the choruses have something to juxtapose against with that sudden stretch of soft moonlit glow.

Severed Hand has some great lines in it, and a magnificent bridge, but always felt very forced to me in its attempts to portray a chemically induced loss of control. Like, it ironically crosses over into feeling TOO controlled.

for about two years after Avocado came out, my wife (then girlfriend) would sarcastically go, "Yeahhhhh!" (mocking Severed Hand) when I asked her a yes/no question. And for that, I will never forgive it.

I love Severed Hand. But In The Moonlight... I mean, it's just... it's just... I mean, it's In The Moonlight.

I didn't expect this to be this close! I voted for In The Moonlight because I genuinely forgot Severed Hand was a song for a while, even though I have fond memories of it. I'd rather hear it than lots of other songs, though (it could easily replace Got Some and Save You on setlists of shows I've been to recently and my enjoyment would have risen 7.5%).
