I think both of these songs (pendulum especially) are more compelling then the archetype you are claiming they are derivative of. But even if you are correct (and you're not), that is still precisely what people like about them. Just like they like the songs on binaural or whatever that you think they are emulating because they are dark and moody.

It's a stupid critique is all. If you don't like them because you think they're shit songs, then so be it.

there is a sizeable chunk of people who hang around RM despite not liking anything the band has done for close to a decade. That's going to skew the voting towards earlier songs.

"Pendulum" is an enjoyable song, and definitely in the top half of Lightning Bolt, but "Whipping" is what I would call an underrated gem, and works so perfectly as the center point to transition Vitalogy to its second half. So, "Whipping" it is.

I don't see how that negates my Radiohead comparison at all.

Pendulum is too shiny and the percussion is too organised and succinct. It's got less feel and more maths than it should. Some of the guitar work is nice though and it certainly was a step in the right direction.

actually that sirens debacle made me go back and listen to aye davanita (it actually got me to put vitalogy in my car, which is most of what I've been listening to this week), and aye davanita is definitely cooler than I was giving it credit for.

This is a tough one. My favorite off the new album, vs. one I've always had a soft spot for. A "middle of the road" song on Vitalogy is better than the best song on Lightning Bolt. Whipping gets my vote.

Yea, it's sad but true. As much as I want to rep Lightning Bolt here, since I suspect it won't be getting much love from here on forward, it's not really that close. Whipping just gets it without even trying too hard, whereas Pendulum feels too much like they gave it every ounce of effort to make one more great song but came up a little short.

i find the rise and fall of pendulum's popularity to be hilarious.

whipping is a great song. the version from atlanta 94 is still better than anything, including the studio version. the vocals are so intense.

I like pendulum more now than I did when it came out. I find it one of the more compelling pieces in that part of their wheelhouse
