I think those are all good songs (especially Porch, NFY and SoH), but I dont like them as much as other people here does.

Alive is pretty overrated. Which isn't to say it isn't a good song. But I've never really understood why people love it so much. Then again, I goddamn love Even Flow, so what do I know?

Re: Top 10 most overrated pearl jam songs
This conversation usually turns into "yes it is!" "no it isn't!" shouting matches, but I haven't posted about Pearl Jam in a few days and can't resist. Here are ten widely-loved Pearl Jam songs whose appeal eludes me.
10- "All Or None". I love the sound of this song, but can never really listen to it without feeling restless. It's a dour, insipid, humorless thing, with not much to grab me other than some sweet guitar licks.
9- "Whipping". Songwriting-wise, this is pretty lightweight. All brawn, no brains. But I do like the performance, especially the drums. The only reason I ever wanna listen to this song.
8- "Pendulum". McP said it all, and it looks like others are starting to come around on this song. It purports to explore a similar mood to songs like "Of the Girl" and "Nothing as it Seems", but when I go looking for it, what I find is something synthetic and foul-tasting. Like those sticks of sugarfree gum that make you fart a lot. But so dark. So moody.
7- "Once". I realize a lot of that early bravado is reactionary and to do a fair analysis it should be given proper context... but divorcing it from all of that, fuck if this isn't the most boring testosterone-driven bro bro "music for bros from bros" boring shit they ever recorded.
6- "Comatose". "Hey the general reaction to our last couple of records appears to have been 'whatever happened to the band that made Vitalogy' so why don't we make something that sounds like something from Vitalogy, like that Black Circle song, yeah that'll get them talking again."
5- "Rats". The kind of brawny pseudofunk I'm glad they moved away from. Though I will say the Ben coda is really funny.
4- "Footsteps". Overwrought and underwritten. Eddie's caterwauling really gets on my nerves on this one. Like someone else said, the full-band version improves the song, but not by much. It's just perpetually dull.
3- "Down". I do think the outtake mystique greatly helps this song, but I still think it'd be one of the lesser songs in Riot Act if it had made it to the album. Have we talked about how the verses to this have pretty much the same chord progression as "You Shook Me All Night Long"? If only it was as fun.
2- "Indifference". I know, I know. This song bores me to tears. It has more of that dour self-seriousness, it's kind of one-note musically (well, two-note, technically) and features the kind of overwrought, self-pitying lyrics that come off as infantile and insincere today. Life is so hard. How much difference does it make? I'll swallow poison until I grow immune. How many times have I felt diseased? Nothing in my life is free. I've tried so hard and got so far. But in the end it doesn't even matter. God, it's like Morrissey without the wit.
1- "Immortality". Yup.
10- "All Or None". I love the sound of this song, but can never really listen to it without feeling restless. It's a dour, insipid, humorless thing, with not much to grab me other than some sweet guitar licks.

Re: Top 10 most overrated pearl jam songs
I'd agree with Down, Rats, Once, and Footsteps. I can appreciate the logic in the others.
I'd add Glorified G to my list.
And if we're looking at this from a general public point of view, I'd definitely add Just Breathe and Sirens.

See, I really like Down. I enjoy listening to it, but it is by no means great. I didn't know that it was that highly rated.
