I like Brain Of J more than DTE everyday. It's a fantastic song, and they absolutely nailed it from the Australian '98 tour.

As much as I like Brain of J's sloppy, playfully sarcastic take on all the little components of past PJ-angst....especially as a way to open Yield...I always sort of wished it had ended up among of the band's innumerable great outtakes/b-sides collection. Something about it just reminds me of other songs that are so incredibly great, and did get released in one fashion or another, but simply ended up not making it onto records for one reason or another.

Plus maybe it would have meant that they wrote another song during the Yield sessions. They were so open to new things at that point, the more ideas they could have gotten down the better. It's a shame to have such a prominent point given over to a mild rewrite of a 1995 outtake, or whatever, even if it is a really fun song.

Anyway, totally voting for it here.

For a period that so many people hold up as a creative peak it didn't produce much beyond the album.

Between April of 93 and October of 95 (a period of 2 1/2 years) you have the second half of sessions for Vs, the entire Vs tour (50+ dates), all sessions related to Vitalogy, the Dead Man Walking work, the Vitalogy tour (34 dates), all sessions and/or touring related to Mirror/Merkinball, and the start of the No Code sessions. Mad Season came out during this time period, too.

Pearl Jam in the mid-90's is an eruption.

fair point. I guess it depends on how generously you define the vitalogy sessions. I was thinking of literal new songs that came out of the actual album sessions

Were there Vitalogy "sessions" ? It is my understanding the album was written on the Vs. tour.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

9 songs, 2 leftovers, 2 jams and a sound collage. Just imagine if they had done another writing session in may 94.

You'd start to veer dangerously away from capturing a moment, and nearer to crafting an album. No thanks. Not this time.

If it were all tied up and down to the last vote, I wouldn't hesitate to vote for BoJ... it's a feakin' great song
But considering that I knew this wouldn't even be close... someone's gotta show LB some love up in this place :heartbeat:

Fair enough. There's a good few songs in this round I'd vote for Infallible over. Brain of J just isn't one of them though.
