DTE is no longer top 5. It may not even be top 10. But it's still incredible

DTE though if this was Speed Wash I would have voted for it if only for those bug shit crazy vocals.

Re: Match FA: Wash vs. Do the Evolution
Wash is a really good song--for sure. But I think what hurts it, in my mind (whether it's fair or unfair) is that its structure reminds me too much of other songs from the same period (like Hard to Imagine and Release). Really slow, brooding start...building up to an explosive, cascading finish. But unfortunately, Wash doesn't stand out for me like Release does. DTE, on the other hand, is one of my favorite versions of Pearl Jam--aggressive, but not too fast (like the album version), with a nice mix of lyrics that are supposed to be super-serious and also sardonic and playful. Plus, I love and always will love the hallelujah breakdown.

Wash is a fantastic opener. I never cared much for the studio version though.
DTE is essential PJ.

there is something about wash that always felt a bit too familiar.Simple Torture wrote:Wash is a really good song--for sure. Do The Evolution is one of PJ's best songs. There's no shame in getting booted out by it.

I'm fighting a losing battle here, but Wash for me.
DtE is all kinds of excellent though. I particularly love the Self Pollution radio version (or was it Monkeywrench actually? '98 so I guess it was).

I'd put corduory, alive, immortality, ledbetter, elderly woman, porch, last exit, and WWS ahead of it for sure. It's probably 9.
