I think it's just a half step away from dark n moody n atmospheric.
It's a bit too busy for that.

It frightens me that I have the same opinion.

this is exactly the kind of soundscape piece I'm interested in. I loved it from the moment we heard the teaser in the tour announcement video. I probably like this song more than Sleight of Hand and Of the Girl put together.

Ed's "I can't be bothered to deal with this" lyrical farting about, and his occasional urge to fixer everything ("If I think you'll get bored, let me put a little "ahh-ahh-ahhing on it"), are what make me hate it.

to the surprise of no one I like the ah-ah-ah part. It was unexpected. We don't have anything else like it. I like how it kind of mocks the rest of the song, which then has to compete for space for the rest of the song.

I've got no problem with the lyrics to this either. They aren't a masterpiece, but Eddie clearly wasn't being lazy with the lyrics on Lightning Bolt. If you're gonna accuse that album of anything it should be that it's overwritten. But they set a pensive, life at a shadowy crossroads mood and then largely get out of the way. As they should.
