It was a regrettable oversight.

Re: Post-Riot Act Moneygrab
I've thought about someone here just starting their own general music forum so we could bitch about something more than pearl jam (though we could still bitch about them also).
Or we could make this site a pj harvey fansite to keep with the pj theme.

Re: Post-Riot Act Moneygrab
Post Riot Act Moneygrab... sure. Thats what bands do when they are popular. I think we all put PJ on a pedistal because they are PJ the band many of us grew up with. It was the non corporate image the band had that had us all scratching our heads w the SNL appearnce with Avocado, the Target deal, and now just for being the most expensive new cd on the shelf with L Bolt. I think of all the cool things PJ used to do that gave them that image. In reality they havent changed that much. They were always after money. 72 double bootlegs priced at 15 dollars of so each- oh wait they were made to screw the bootlegers. I don't think they minded taking up like 5 spots at once on the billboard chart. And the money that comes with that.
Pj do what they do, they are what they are a hugely popular rock band with die hard fans that will support them in whatever they do- oh wait - never mind.
What's wrong with PJ making money? Everybody has to work.

Here too, just heard it again a few minutes ago.
They'd get really huge money for that.
A band we know(ash) had a song in one of the gran turismo games years ago and they got €50,000 for it. Hardly small change

“There were some great people that worked (at Reprise) in the early ’90s,” says Arm, referring to A&R man David Katznelson and the other supporters who miraculously kept Mudhoney on the label’s roster for two more albums and an EP. Even more impressive is the financial arrangement the group had with Reprise.
“It did allow us to buy houses, but that was all on advance money, not on record sales,” laughs Arm. “We had a deal with them where we got the back end of our recording budget, so whatever we didn’t spend recording the album, we got to keep. So we would record for $20,000 or $30,000 and keep the remaining $110,000 for ourselves.”

I meant to ask something about this. I was at Best Buy with someone last week and I noticed that LB was like $16.99, and every other similar release was like $11.99/$12.99. What's up with that?resonance of distance wrote:and now just for being the most expensive new cd on the shelf with L Bolt.

So that ok but ed playing private parties isn't? They're both taking advantage of a corporation for money. I don't see the difference.Birds in Hell wrote:Good for them.

everyone thinks Ed is so deep and artistic, and he carries inspiration and lyric ideas in his little vintage suitcases while on tour.

Chuck berry insists the cash be ready for him in a suitcase upon leaving the show and he handcuffs it to himself.

I haven't thought about that in years until today, but man that pissed me off back in the day. I wasn't going to keep buying No Codes to collect them all, but i REALLY wanted to see those liner notes. It was probably the most I was ever annoyed by them (as opposed to 10c)
Aside from the fact that including different content or packaging in various editions of a release is a pretty long-standing tradition in the music industry, I never felt as though I should buy more copies of No Code to get all the lyric sheets. It felt as though not knowing which Polaroids you would get was part of the "puzzle", such as it was. I hadn't even considered looking for the others.
Me too, no question.PryTo wrote:I’m not sure I’d even count PJ as one of my top ten favorite bands. In fact, I’m sure of it.
I think it would be something of a misconception, though a relatively understandable one, for someone to presume that posting on a Pearl Jam messageboard is an indicator of fervent devotion to the band above all others.
I like Pearl Jam a lot but there's many bands whose work is more meaningful to me and plenty I think make better music; they, however, don't have messageboards that feature Kevin Davis, theplatypus, McParadigm, etc. It's the posters and the level of discussion that keeps me returning here, not Pearl Jam.
For someone who is genuinely that devoted to Pearl Jam, I can see how these sort of things could be more easily ignored; "they've given me so much, isn't this all rather small beer?" I doubt there's anything The Cure or Neil Young could do that would really bother me at this point, for instance, but I don't feel the same need to cut Pearl Jam as much slack. There's almost a protectiveness to the way stip (for example) treat the band that not everyone is going to share.
You know, I think my issue has a lot more to do with red mosquito and not wanting to see this forum turn into the negative version of the pit. Or, rather, it is my bemoaning that this has already happened. Some of that is to be expected since a number of high profile posters don't like pearl jam anymore and stick around for the community (which is great) but rm has transformed from a place where you could find a lot of really intelligent discussion about music into a place for people to take catty shots at a band that we are supposed to be a fan forum for. There's still good conversations, but man do you need to wade through a lot of shit to find it. And that's a shame.
Because there's no reason for me to care that much about pearl jam inc. I have a certain degree of admiration for the band but I am long past the point where my relationship with the band (as opposed to the music)forms part of my identity. and it's not like the music is beyond reproach with me. I'm one of the more critical posters here in regards to the music. I just happen to like the last 2 records a lot.
