Favorite Headphone Songs/Albums
Hi there.
Earlier today Mastaflatch posted a link to the Fiona Apple album The Idler Wheel. It reminded me of what a great listening experience that album is on headphones. What are some other albums that sound especially good when played through headphones?

I remember one of the first songs that really blew me away on headphones was "Hotwax" by Beck. Right after the first chorus there's some computerized buzzing effect that starts off at a very centralized point on the spectrum but gradually expands outward--when you listen to it on headphones it feels like your brain is spilling out of your ears.

Re: Favorite Headphone Songs/Albums

this one, i'm not sure it still holds up musically but it definitely has beautifully recorded layers and, maybe it's a flaw, but some vocals and sound effects seem to be recorded too low to be noticed except when you listen to it with headphones.

quite the schizophrenic listen; the loud/soft disparities are, i'm sure, totally deliberate. when King Crimson whant you out of your torpor, you definitely get out of it - most likely with a scream.

what struck me when i listened to this one closely is the importance of Tori's voice as an ambient instrument. you'd remove the (majestic) vocal harmonies and the songs would probably fall apart.

Waters (with the help of Madonna's produced Patrick Leonard and the Q-Sound technology) managed to make an album that raised the standard that Pink Floyd themselves set before. as far as 3-D music effectively works on a plain old stereo environnement, it's among the best (and it's been made in 1992).

i had to include a Daniel Lanois-produced album here and this one sure pretty good. Lanois' force is to make studio trickery sound pretty natural and this album has songs that fit the exercise.

i always come back to this one from Sigur Ros. maybe by nostalgia, idk but it's still very powerful and it effortlessly takes you somewhere else.
