Brandon Browner to Pats for $17M
The New England Patriots have agreed to terms on a deal with free agent cornerback Brandon Browner on a three-year deal, a league source told ESPN's Josina Anderson. The deal carries a maximum value of $17 million, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Browner, a 2011 Pro Bowler, is suspended for the first four games of this upcoming regular season after violating the league's substance abuse policy. His suspension also included the last two games of last regular season and the 2013 playoffs.
He's the second high-profile cornerback added to the fold for the Patriots in as many days, as the team agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Darrelle Revis on Wednesday night.
The 29-year old Browner played and started eight games for the Seahawks last season, recording 19 tackles and one interception.
Revis and Browner headline a cornerback group that no longer includes Aqib Talib, who recently agreed to a deal with the Denver Broncos. The rest of the position group is highlighted by Alfonzo Dennard, Logan Ryan and Kyle Arrington.
Browner is regarded as one of the most physical cornerbacks in the NFL with his 6-4, 220-pound frame.

Colts owner Jim Irsay—who, despite images like these, has said before that he doesn't drink—was arrested late last night in Indiana.
Irsay was arrested in Carmel, Ind., and booked around 3 a.m. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance, and his bond was set at $22,500.
In 2002, Irsay spent a month in rehab for a decades-long addiction to prescription painkillers.

Given his penchant for tweeting PJ lyrics, I'm waiting for someone to tweet to him something like "Never thought you'd habit!" Then again, it's not terribly surprising given that his father was a notorious alcoholic. Peyton Manning, Tony Dungy and Bill Polian did a good job fooling me that the apple might have fallen far from the tree.

Vegas could have made a killing off a "Jimmy Haslam will be the next NFL owner to face criminal charges" line.Irsay is the first NFL owner to face criminal charges since Eddie DeBartolo relinquished control of the 49ers when it was learned that he was facing an indictment on federal racketeering charges in 1997.

Awwww, look at the Class of 2014. Imagine how several of those guys will drop out by next year.
And if you count, there's only 31 of them in there. The obvious 32nd one probably thought that the whole concept insulted his sheer intelligence.

Re: 2014 NFL Offseason
Yeah, not sure why I didn't hear this before, but on the radio they were saying that Belichick is not in the coach's union, and so I guess he skips this annual photo, and his name can't be used in the video games. I really have no opinion on this at all. I have no idea about the advantages and disadvantages to being in the NFL coach's union.Green Habit wrote:Awwww, look at the Class of 2014. So Belichick's not a union guy either? He really makes it way too easy for people to hate him--not that he cares.Coach wrote:Yeah, not sure why I didn't hear this before, but on the radio they were saying that Belichick is not in the coach's union, and so I guess he skips this annual photo, and his name can't be used in the video games. Re: 2014 NFL Offseason
Belichick loves to stick it to the NFL establishment....like ignoring a league-wide memo about taping and then blatantly ignoring such direction. Not a great call on that one, Bill.Green Habit wrote:So Belichick's not a union guy either? This union business is likely another example of that. You couple that with the fact that he must have an unreal contract with the Patriots and it's easy to see why he swims against the current in this respect. That, and perhaps his contract bars him from joining the union. I wouldn't put that past the Krafts.

Re: 2014 NFL Offseason
Still largely holding my "don't care" stance on the Redskins name, but Daniel Snyder is defending it in a way that's just totally expected of Daniel Snyder.
