I like that song but that line is rough.

Re: Match FI: Sometimes vs. Who You Are
Ohhhh, yea, okay. The verse hasn't even been mentioned, so it can't be the aforementioned verse. He would have to have already referred to the verse in order for it to be the aforementioned verse.Birds in Hell wrote:Trampled moss on your souls
Changes all, you're a part
Seen it all, not at all
Can't defend fucked up man
Circumstance, clapping hands
Driving winds, happenstance
Off the track, in the mud
That's the moss in the aforementioned verse
A basic definition of "aforementioned" is that it refers to a thing or person previously mentioned; it's a subsequent mention of something that's already been referred to at least once in the text being considered.
There's no other possible reading of the lyric above other than the previously mentioned thing being referred to is the preceding verse itself. Ed's error is that he treats the word as being synonymous with "previous" - the verse cannot be aforementioned as it hasn't even been mentioned once as of yet.
Thanks.

What is the moss in the aforementioned verse, anyway? The mud? That don't make no sense!

It's (presumably) the trampled moss on our souls, Burt.BurtReynolds wrote:What is the moss in the aforementioned verse, anyway? The mud? That don't make no sense!

Ok, I'm trying to get this... The verse was never aforementioned... the moss was... so it would make sense if the line was "That's the mud... the aforementioned moss." amirite? Either way, it IS awkward sounding...
Sometimes just doesn't seem finished to me, but the lyrics are definitively better.

"Previous verse" would work slightly better, but it's still pretty bad.

You fuckers...
I'm changing
My vote because of Eddie's dumb lyrics.
I'll just put on Jack's solo album
Whenever I want to hear
The aforementioned drums.

Eddie's carelessness just might make the difference in this match.

Re: Match FI: Sometimes vs. Who You Are
Sometimes loses points for me cause when he sings "You're God and you've got big hands," I'm almost positive he's talking about/to himself, and I can't help but thinking that Given to Fly is a much better "I'm God" song.

I just changed my vote to Sometimes. Careless grammar pisses me the hell off. Well pointed-out Spenno.
