Who You Are. I love Sometimes, and pretty much all of No Code, but Who You Are is the clear winner here. If anything, for Jack's super cool drumming.

Re: Match FI: Sometimes vs. Who You Are
Sometimes. Never liked Who you are.
The aforementioned verse line would be bizzare even if it was correct, what's so important about the moss he has to remind us about it anyway? This was the least awkward way he could figure out to link the mud and the moss?
Whatever. Sometimes.

Bad grammar or not, I've never know what he muttered in that line anyway. I'm voting Who You Are for the drums alone.

Re: Match FI: Sometimes vs. Who You Are
Who You Are has become one of my favorite PJ songs. In fact, it may have even jumped ahead of In My Tree as my favorite No Code track. Sometimes is no joke however. I've enjoyed the rough versions of it from the 2013 tour. And I also love the version on the Water on the Road DVD. Glad to see this one is so close but I'm hoping that Who You Are can pull it out.

Re: Match FI: Sometimes vs. Who You Are
Poor grammar doesn't always sink a song:
I really have to think about this one. Sometimes is a great album opener--subtle, with tiny moments of something **LOUDER** and more in your face peaking through, but never overtaking the song; I've written before about how much I like the song's anti-climax, as Ed's words get closer together and more intense towards the end, building towards an explosion...that never comes (those recent live versions where he screams really ruin this moment for me, but I think I'll just judge studio versions this round). On the surface, Who You Are is slightly more one-note, with a pretty consistent mood and pace throughout, but the music does intensify a bit in each verse in a way that you might not notice at first. I do like the lyrics and how nonsense-sounding they seem at first, but I think it's got it's own internal logic.
Ah, man. I voted for Who You Are first, but I'm switching my vote to Sometimes.

Pretty much how I feel. Though I'm not sure what constitutes as bad lyrics. This "aforementioned" thing seems to qualify.cutuphalfdead wrote:I understand, spenno.Birds in Hell wrote:Unless they're really, really bad.theplatypus wrote:But lyrics don't matterrrrrrrr they're just souuunndssssBirds in Hell wrote:The glaring misuse of "aforementioned" in Who You Are almost entirely cancels out its many strengths, it really bums me out.

I'm wildly inconsistent when it comes to lyrics and if I consider them egregious enough to detract from the song.Leatherhead wrote:Pretty much how I feel.
