David Bowie
Doesn't look like this immense talent has a dedicated thread yet.
I've been on a huge Bowie kick the last couple of weeks. This dude in the 70s. I like Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane the most easily. But he did a lot of other stuff in that decade that are really fantastic. I'm still digging in but I know Hunky Dory, Ziggy (one of my favorites ever), Aladdin Sane, Station to Station, Low, "Heroes", and Lodger well. I've listened to some of his other stuff sporadically but I'm still in the place where I want to listen to these guys over and over.

Re: David Bowie
Honky Dory is probably my favorite. Though, I respect and concede the brilliance that is Ziggy Stardust. It's probably the superior effort. There's just something about how quirky and offbeat Honky Dory is that I adore. Also, Life on Mars? is a beast of a song. Maybe my all time favorite Bowie track.

Yeah, I'd probably name Life on Mars? as my favorite Bowie song as well.durdencommatyler wrote:Also, Life on Mars? is a beast of a song. Maybe my all time favorite Bowie track.

I like that record...but I think the next two are much better. And Life on Mars? is an absolutely amazing song. His best ones off of all three of those are legendary.durdencommatyler wrote:Honky Dory is probably my favorite. Though, I respect and concede the brilliance that is Ziggy Stardust. Aladdin Sane is solid, but I never got into the way I did Honky Dory & Ziggy. Not sure why. But that one is easily my least favorite of the three. Still great, just can't touch those other two in my ears.

Re: David Bowie
His last six albums are all very good to great. The Next Day was definitely my album of the year for 2013.
His mid to late 80's work is a little soft but everything since the release of Outside has just been spot on.

Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

The only song I really know is Space Oddity. I've always loved it. One of my buds used to jam it on his acoustic around the campfire.

Re: David Bowie
Oh man...so much of his work from the 70s is absolutely classic. It still holds up so well today. Several different phases for him and most of them were brilliant.Kaius wrote:The only song I really know is Space Oddity. I've always loved it. I think Aladdin Sane is a better album than Ziggy Stardust. Controversial, right?

Re: David Bowie
Hi. I'm here to rep for Station to Station. And not in a 'contrarian, no one is talking about Station to Station so I'm the coolguy who will' type way.
Why am I coming up with qualifiers for such an undeniable classic?
Anyway, "Station to Station" (the song) is in my top 10 of all time. It's worthy of the album purchase in and of itself. An example of the many 'songs within a song' genre (Band on the Run, Soft Parade, etc) but this is the finest of them all (if you don't count Abbey Road side 2, which I don't, for these purposes).
Then you have Golden Years, which, come on.
And some super underrated Bowie gems like TVC 15, Stay, and Word on a Wing. Anyway, check it out. You won't be angry you did. And then, one day, you too can enter a random David Bowie thread on some random forum and rep hard for it.

Re: David Bowie
station to station was probably my favorite bowie album throughout my teenage years. the title track is a monster of a piece. carlos alomar is a genius.
at some point "heroes" overtook that album as my favorite, but there's very little from bowie i've ever disliked... maybe young americans but even that has some solid material on it.
