Songs that mention your hometown

Post by Kevin Davis »

People from NYC or Chicago are probably used to it, but references to Peoria, IL in pop culture are pretty scant so it's always pretty novel when one shows up, even if it is from an album specifically about Illiniois:

Sufjan Stevens:

Songs: Ohia also has "Peoria Lunch Box Blues," though I don't think the lyrics themselves actually mention the town.

What about you? What no-name town are you from and where does it turn up in song?

New Orleans is the closest real town to where I'm from, so House of the Rising Sun would be my favorite.

Although I think there is a song by the legendary Afroman that name drops my hometown. Can't remember for sure.

The resemblance is uncanny, but I think Questlove has better things to do than drive a van with his face painted on it through the streets of Hattiesburg, MS.

Fresh dressed 'cause I shop at Models
Deep in Brooklyn I rode the L's
Used to ride the D to beat the morning bell
At Edward R. Morrow out on Avenue L

Just missing the house number. You can look up the zip.
