It's easily the least good of the first eight.

Still would say Because of the Times is their best.
I agree with everything you've said here. This album kinda blurs into their last couple, i.e. pretty much the same thing.

BOTT was brilliant, and still comes up in regular rotation for me. None of their other albums do that for me. I don't even know why I keep buying their new albums, and still expect something great. :shake:

It was clearly the album where they decided to take big(ger) chances and try on some different styles. Only By The Night is their great big pop album, and that's awesome, but BOTT had a mixture of that great bigness mixed with just the right amount of WTF.

The last two records, while entirely enjoyable, don't break through to that special territory. And that's fine, I still like them. I'm not going to fall into the trap of shitting on KOL because they're "just" solid rock and roll and talk too much about sex or some shit. They're fun, they have hooks, end of story.

I actually think it's a worthy comparison considering the slice of pie these two bands are fighting over.

I'd say that LB, while hardly groundbreaking, has just enough going on that it rewards further listening more than the KOL.

they're very similar actually

the BRMC album of 2013 is better than both, though

Finally listened to Mechanical Bull today, and I must say upon first listen I agree with all previous statements that the Kings of Leon have gotten it back. I was pretty disappointed with Come Around Sundown, feeling it was a lazy attempt at stretching out their pop success gained from Only By The Night (which I like, but feared where it was taking them). At any rate, this one will give me a much needed break from Lightning Bolt. This is the KoL I fell in love with when I first heard Aha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times.

Mech.Bull has to be the most surprisingly good record of the year! Everything from Supersoaker to Temple to Wait For Me to Tonight are as awesome as I've heard them since BOTT.

Agreed. I asked a friend if he'd heard it yet, and I told him it was actually real good. He said, "Really? After sundown I just assumed this one sucked too."

Has anyone seen KOL live on the current tour?

I am going tonight. Ticketmaster says the show is at 8pm.

I don't care to see the opener and I'm curious if anyone knows about what time KOL will hit the stage?

Thanks.
