Problematic how? What are you thinking, bada?
Well part of what goes into my thinking is personalities. Like with Stip's picks he choose two of the most egotistical single minded musicians of all time. True alpha males in the musical sense with all encompassing musical visions. They are followed not lead. They might collaborate as long as it's going their way. Those two guys couldn't get through a cup of coffee together nevermind write a song.

With your picks you also choose alphas but with more reasonable personalities. To a point. I don't really see them working on an acoustic level. I don't know what Jack would add in that setting.

On the electric side Jack is more of a quick sonic explosion of blues and punk. I don't see Neil as a blues man. His rockers tend to be lumbering and plodding with explosive and extended solos. Solos that are longer than most of Jacks songs. Vocally they could probably blend together nicely. I guess I have a hard time seeing how either guy elevates the others songs. Now if you had taken Jack and John Bonham......
In real life my pairing would never work, but in this fantasy they only need to hold it together for an album or a few shows. And imagine the music they'd make

To be fair, didn't Billy do a stint in 2001/2002 playing lead guitar for New Order? One that was pretty successful by all accounts, no? He may not be capable of keeping his ego in check most of the time, but there are instances of him deferring to others out there.

I'm down with your vision, stip.

BO'B might be the key to getting Prince and Billy to coexist.

Here's a guy that is no stranger to working with larger than life characters. He's a beautiful songwriter and guitar player, one of the best of all-time, and I happen to think his love for Hindu culture would be right up my front man's alley. After careful consideration, because I could have went a gazillion different ways here, my 2nd pick is....

The First Beatle! I'm glad it was George.

OK, and so it goes...

I need a front man who has showman qualities, can sing the type of stuff my band is gonna be doing, and if he happens to be a tad creative well, that wouldn't be a bad thing either, given his current band member isn't. A musician's musician, capable of playing a variety of styles, and well versed in keeping groups of diverse personalities on point and focused on the main game - the music. He's a natty dresser and the bonus is he plays a mean piano to boot.

OK, I need a drummer. There's gonna be 18 picks before I get to go again and I would guess that the 7 teams that don't have drummers at the moment will be using one of their next 2 picks to nab one. My shortlist of drummers isn't that long.

I don't need a huge smasher here, but of course the guy has to be able to wallop it when required. Needs a bluesy background, but we are going to go a bit experimental at times too, so a sense of adventure and some unusual experiences are a plus. Needs to be able to get on with others - well, that's more a want than a total need, although a history of locking in with a superstar lead guitarist and being part of an all-star rhythm section would be...sweet. I want a guy who can hold his own and get noticed because of how perfectly he fits the beat, rather than because of his huge drum solo.

Let's go with one of my personal favourite drummers...Ginger Baker

The Argonaut wrote:I have Tom Waits already in the band. It's a little difficult to imagine giving him any band and not ending up with Tom Waits music at the end. He has done so many different things, and has always made them uniquely his own. I need to pair him with equally outsize characters. My next choice is the great blues guitarist
B.B. King
That is really interesting.

so far most of these combos would play nicely off each other, methinks.
