Prince and BC are both great guitarists, but are also very polarizing figures and can't get along with anyone who works with them.

At least for me this is totally a question of style and whether or not you can imagine the music working together. I don't give a shit who is a diva or any real world drama. It's a dream band. None of that is a problem. I think I should be able to throw Axel Rose on this team and it shouldn't be a problem.
Now if Axel would sound like shit playing with them and you can't imagine how song writing styles would mesh that's a different problem

But they'll find common ground by being mutually appalled with their band manager, stip (who will be called a genius for making the two work cohesively).Iholdthepain wrote:Prince and BC are both great guitarists, but are also very polarizing figures and can't get along with anyone who works with them.

I don't see why Billy Corgan couldn't coexist with Prince. Billy seems to have a bit of deference to those who preceded him, and he's on record both praising the way Prince took on the music industry in the late 90s and has referred to him as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Prince might not give a shit about Billy, but I think Billy would be respectful of Prince.

Trying to figure out how the different personalities fit is half the fun. Just assuming it will work is lazy. It's like putting together a basketball team and having all centers in your starting five. Who's gonna pass, whose gonna shoot, whose the glue guy? You might as well be drawing names out of a hat.

Also they'd look hilarious standing next to each other, which is a plus.Lament wrote:I don't see why Billy Corgan couldn't coexist with Prince. I was just about to say that while I think personalities shouldn't really come up, obviously you need to look good for your publicity shots.theplatypus wrote:Also they'd look hilarious standing next to each other, which is a plus.Lament wrote:I don't see why Billy Corgan couldn't coexist with Prince. yeah, but for me this is all a question of music. It's why I was uncertain about someone like Les Claypool, who I think you need to have as the center of your outfit musically--building songs around him and his style. I'm definitely thinking about how the musicians can support each other, who will be the star, how they'll play off each other.bada wrote:Trying to figure out how the different personalities fit is half the fun. I just think their alleged personalities shouldn't matter. If DcT wants to draft someone from Lynard Skynrd I don't think it should matter that his team has neil young.

I think clearly we should also be voting on how effectively the team is able to handle their groupies. For instance, Prince is allegedly a tender and giving lover. So I'll need to think about how adding Vince Neil will affect that dynamic.

I think a lot of people will consider whether or not they think the members could coexist when we get to the voting round, but I think that a case can be made for all of these bands being able to work together so far, even stip's.

I definitely considered personalities and background when choosing my musicians, but whether or not they would be friends had never crossed my mind, to put it another way.

i guess in the end I don't know nearly enough about the actual personalities of the vast majority of these people for it to be able to influence my decisions

Who is gonna draft a sax player in an effort to secure Jorge's support?

musical personalities and backgrounds, or demographic/personal? I do think I need to pick a bass player whose style wouldn't conflict with the kinds of songs I think my primary songwriters would be coming up with.Kaius wrote:I definitely considered personalities and background when choosing my musicians, but whether or not they would be friends had never crossed my mind, to put it another way.

no one could predict how they'd interact, seems a little extreme.stip wrote:i guess in the end I don't know nearly enough about the actual personalities of the vast majority of these people for it to be able to influence my decisions

Watching performances, listening to songs, and reading Wikipedia are all terrible indicators of whether or not they'd be best friends
