I hate how they added actual email verification so you can't just put stipsgay@stipsgay.com in anymore.

Re: Neutral Milk Hotel
I'd like to seek some clarification on this, guys:
What exactly was the intended message here? It seems like a kind of negative comment. But was he saying that he SHOULD love this record, even though it sucks? I mean, if he shortens his name from 'nobody in this thread' to 'nobody' in every day conversation (like 'chud' or 'durd') then he might be referring to himself. WAS he referring to himself? Should we just go ahead and assume that it was really a sideways disparaging remark about himself? Does he have low self esteem? I'm not sure the internet is the best place to acknowledge that. Does he believe that he should only like sucky music? Like, maybe he's not good enough for all the nonsucky music? Was he just being sarcastic? About which part? Sarcasm translates so poorly through the internet. Don't you find that? I'm sorry, love. No, I don't mean I love you. I mean, I should have said "love" instead of "like" in the previous sentences. HE used that word, and love is different from like. It's different from lust, too. Although I guess all three of these things can coexist or exist without each other. DID he mean love? Or was he just generally trying to say that he should approve of a sucky record, and decided to use the word love because it really drove the point home? Maybe suck IS his aesthetic preference. Like, the more something sucks the more he likes it. Is that a thing? COULD that be a thing? He feels that the record sucks, but in spite of that he hasn't yet been able to love it? What would that be like? What kind of reviews would such a person write, and how would they rank the Pearl Jam records? Maybe he was just trolling. I dunno. I mean, it's sort of a short, blunt statement. Those are pretty good for side-tracking a thread. I should remember that. I always sidetrack with big long rambling posts. Short little surgical strikes can be pretty damn funny. I can't really think of an example just now, but they're out there. Count on it. They're out there. If he is a troll, and I think we can all agree that it's a big 'if,' was he mocking the people who dislike the record? Or was he trying to get a rise out of the people who DO like it? It's hard to say. I think a good surgical troll strike is much more effective when you can easily identify a very specific target group. This is too vague. It just seems like a nonevent. So I guess maybe he's not a troll. But how did he even get quoted by Jorge without ever amassing a single post in his history? Is Red Mosquito getting buggy? Where is Buggy? That guy was great. Or am I just getting nostalgic, now. I dunno. I guess I am getting older. I can't actually remember anything about Buggy except for that World Wide Suicide demo thing. That WAS him, wasn't it? Maybe it wasn't. Shit. I guess it doesn't matter.Nobody in this thread wrote:This record sucks and nobody should love it

Re: Neutral Milk Hotel
interesting comment, it makes me think deeply about if it's just me getting older and getting nostalgic or if all of us, are, in fact aging and nostalgia-izing, and of course, in a way, IS THERE NO MALT SHOPPE?? is perhaps the most important question any of us could ever ask...Or am I just getting nostalgic, now. I dunno. I guess I am getting older.

that's like wondering if the building stands because of a single rivet.
Is rivet the word? Pretty sure it's rivet.

This thread needed to be resurrected. We shouldn't let it die the miserable death that theplatypus, McParadigm, and stip forced upon it.
Anyway,.. I haven't listened beyond In the Aeroplane Over the Sea yet, but as one poster (dct I think) put it, it has me under its spell. What a spectacular listen. I agree with the descriptions that, without actually quoting, described it as "timeless" and "perfectly flawed". It has gravitas, wisdom, and experience that is lifted out of itself by a youthful exuberance.
There are no weak tracks, and I prefer a full album listen to cherry picking songs for quick fixes, but the highlight for me is Oh, Comely > Ghost. Definitely one of my favorite 1-2 punches... EVER.

Re: Neutral Milk Hotel
Saw them live in Berlin last week. That was a beautiful show, they played as if they never went on a 16 year hiatus. Those guys really love playing live, Julian was dancing and jumping around evertime he wasn't bound to his singing saw. Jeff was the only where I wasn't sure if he was enjoying himself but he perfomed beautifully so that didn't really matter.
Seeing Two Headed Boy Part 2 performed live was one of my life-time concert highlights.
