Re: Dream Band Super-Group Tournament - Bracket is up!
I think Page and Plant are major omissions. I'm also really surprised no other PJ members were taken. I thought about Jack Irons, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. But I Jack was the only one I could see even sort of fitting in. And Levon Helm is just the man. No way I'm taking Irons over him.
Also, I can't believe no one grabbed Duane Allman. I thought about taking an 8th person just so he wouldn't be left out. Plus, he'd fit my group pretty damn well. But seven is crowded enough.

What a dick.
Didn't take all drummers. Didn't take Sambora. Lied about someone reporting my post to MODS to have me banned. This is supposed to be a safe place!

I was seriously considering Alex Van Halen as my drummer - this remains one of my favourite pieces of precussion work (and the video has always stayed with me too...)durdencommatyler wrote:Als, Bon Jovi. HOW COME NO ONE TOOK JON BON JOVI

Sambora was my attempt at subliminal sabotage. I was hoping someone would see the name and take him.durdencommatyler wrote:Lament wrote:I dunno, but Sarge didn't take Richie Sambora like he promised.![]()

Re: Dream Band Super-Group Tournament - Bracket is up!
PJ Harvey was always gonna be my #1 pick, but if she'd been taken I was ready to go with Stevie Wonder or Prince.
I wanted Jack White in round two, and my back up pick was Billy Corgan. Since they were both gone, it came down to Buckingham, Johnny Marr, and Kevin Shields.
The Grohl pick came down to him, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Stephen Morris. I was pretty certain it'd be Grohl, though. Had I gotten Jack White, however, my intent was to take Charlie Watts third.
Peter Hook was almost Gary Mounfield, John Entwistle, Simon Gallup, Kim Deal, or Kim Gordon. I had them on a playlist I was listening to while I was running before my pick.
Jonny Greenwood was at one point going to be John Cale or Sly Stone.
I considered taking a sixth pick and drafting Klaus Nomi.

Re: Dream Band Super-Group Tournament - Bracket is up!
I had Kim Gordon, Kim Deal and Tina Weymouth on my list. I was going to take one of them, but when Stip grabbed Laura Burhenn, that changed things. Aimee Mann fits MUCH better than any of those three, though all of them are superior bassists. But Mann brings a vocal talent and multi-musicianship to the table.
My team would have looked really different with Laura Burhenn.

Honestly, I do think it would be better to set this up by Friday if everyone has their descriptions ready. If not, that's cool. But if Lament has everything, there's no reason to wait.

I can submit a write-up tomorrow night, but I'm not going to go too deep into my imagination with it. It'll be pretty simple, just what my thought process is regarding each member's role.
Please consider voting for me

Molecules For Mercy is Post-Art Rock.
Mathematic movements and pulsating polyrhythms transport listeners on an Odyssey into aural pleasure.
Annie Clark fronts M4M. She commands the attention of the crowd. Her dusky, dulcent vocal performance refines the spirit of the Icelandic diva, Bjork, and adds the proper elegance of a Madonna ballad. Her stoic confidence on stage is not to be denied. The guitar effects, tones, and off-beat rhythms channel the spirit of Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp of King Crimson.
David Gilmour is legendary for having the cleanest guitar tones, as well as a charming vocal allure. He is a perfectionist, and believes that if he cannot sing a melody, it is not worth exploring on his guitar. DG's role in this band is simply to smooth out the rough edges and do that thing that he does so effortlessly.

Danny Carey... Enter the King of polyrhythmic patterns. Made of melted down Paiste cymbals, his symmetrical drumkit is a shrine to the Gods of Thunder. DC is quite familiar with rocking math beats, interweaved with digital dynamics through his self-developed Mandala pads. He seamlessly integrates analog and digital swells into the tapestry of the music.

Must-see! DC demo's his Mandalas...
Les Claypool is a dynamic candidate who adds a dirge bass groove to anchor the dominant roles of Annie and Danny. He is a virtuoso of his instrument, and has revolutionized the electric bass the way Jimi Hendrix revolutionized the electric guitar. The Colonel can add vocal nuances here and there, and even take the occasional lead vocal role.

Star-Spangled Banner interlude at 4:00...
Nigel Godrich is often referred to as the 6th member of Radiohead. Nigel is the producer/programmer/keyboardist/guitarist extrordinaire, who has played on and produced every Radiohead album since The Bends, as well as Beck's Mutations, The Information, and Sea Change, REM's Up, and Sir Paul McCartney's Chaos And Creation In The Backyard... among others. As an instrumentalist in Molecules For Mercy, he will be the glue that binds the machine together. When he is not onstage adding textures and his wall of sound, Nigel will be experimenting with the band in the studio. Nigel is always looking for a way to maximize the talents of his bandmates, of himself, and to push the creative envelope of M4M.

I'd listen to that band.
