The whole "dead musician thing" is moot if we're picking all players at "the height of their powers."

I feel like I finally understand the appeal of this tournament idea. It's OB fanfiction!

Yeah, pretty much. I was thinking this when I was writing down some notes. I finally understood why people write fanfic.

"She could drag me over the rainbow..."

I should add that Neil's album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere was a huge influence on me in this contest. It's also one of my all-time favorite records. Check it out, if you haven't already. I would kill to hear Neil and Jack trade guitar riffs over Levon's drums on the title track. Literally, I'd kill people to hear it.

It was my first favorite album after the obligatory Dark Side of the Moon phase.

Also! Lament, I meant to tell you...

I downloaded Let England Shake awhile back, but I hadn't really listened to it yet. I mean I'd put it on in the background or whatever. But because of this thread I put it on the headphones the other day. Holy shit! That album is fantastic.

Just in case you were wondering, I also own Is This Desire? and Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea. And I've heard Rid of Me, borrowed it from a friend, but never purchased it myself.

But, yeah, Let England Shake is great. I'm loving the holy hell out of that guy right now.

Let England Shake really is out of this world. It blows my mind that that's the level of work she's still producing twenty years into her career. I think the most amazing thing about it is that I can't think of another album that it's comparable, in anyone's catalog. It's weirdly like traditional English folk music, but from an alternate universe or something.

That's lame. You should do an actual album made from isolated bits of each musician.
Planning on it you jerk.

I just need a producer.

Exactly. It's the same kind of thing Tom Waits has been doing for years but totally different. If that makes sense. It's some sort of weird patchwork homage, but without ever really being too like the thing itself. It's totally brilliant.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

I think a lot of people still underestimate her and her career. The sheer longevity of her greatness is reaching legend status. Rid of Me and To Bring You My Love hovered near the top of tons of Best of the 90s lists, Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea did the same with just as many Best of the 00s lists, and considering the reviews for Let England Shake were in a lot of ways the best of her career it seems pretty likely that it'll be hovering near the top of plenty of Best of the 10s lists. I can't think of many artists who put out albums of that level in three consecutive decades.

These write ups have all been pretty killer. I'm not as confident in the one I'm working on as I once was. You guys are really bringing the heat.

Also the thought of Laura Burhenn singing Raspberry Burett makes me want to jizz. Sorry. But I'm just saying.
