My biggest contribution to this tournament will be ensuring that no one drafts prince in future iterations.

In the next tournament someone else will recreate your band pick for pick, but since he's not you he will get to the Final Four.

this is all backspacer's fault. It was before your time, but I used to be taken at least marginally seriously in these parts.

I'm not sure that had you voted for me when I was down 3-1 it'd really count as a sympathy vote. Whoever votes for me when I'm down 11-1 will be casting the sympathy vote.

I thought Prince, Corgan and Abbruzzese was a good foundation for a band. Just Cohen and Macca didn't seem to gel. I was surprised no REM members were picked actually.

Great work all around, regardless of who wins this tourney. The voting is always the worst part of these things.

vote for broken fools. I feel like Lament's band is going to more interesting places than classic rock wet dream. Plus I don't like John Lennon or David Bowie.

Alright, so let's look at these teams...

Broken Signals is such an interesting band, and, like mine, is a band I would really want to listen to. Great combination of musical talent that can take the band in such wonderfully different directions. I adore PJ Harvey and Lindsey Buckingham. Two of my favorites. Dave Grohl and Johnny Greenwood are both interesting musicians that have material I really love and material that rubs me the wrong way. They would be the trickiest pair in the band, I think. But Dave seems so open to genius and surrounding himself with diverse talent. He seems to show due respect to those who have earned it. Peter Hook is the wild card here for me. I like Joy Division but they never quit hit me all the way. Maybe someday.

Broken Signals deserves to advance. I really hate that their first match is against Ship of Fools.

Ship of Fools is probably the strongest team in this tournament. I've heard Bowie and Fripp together, obviously. And it's majestic. I've heard Bowie and Lennon together, and it's majestic. It's so easy to hear this band in my head and I love what I hear. These really are some of the greatest rock musicians of all time. Moon, JPJ, Bowie and Lennon are fucking gods. Bowie and Lennon alone are enough to cement this band. And I have no doubt they'd be able to function well together. Stellar group.

Sorry, Lament. You got a really dynamic team and maybe my favorite outside of my own... and Self's. Tough draw.

Now, Stip v IHTP....

I don't really have an opinion of Annie Clark, yet. There's promise in the stuff I've heard but nothing that blows me away. David Gilmour is a god and one of my all time favorite guitarists. I like McCartney more than Claypool in general, but I think Les fills his spot in MfM better than McCartney in AiE. But I like Dave A better than Carey but only because I like Pearl Jam more than Tool... but then again Carey is probably the better (and definitely the more interesting) drummer of the two. Again, I think Carey fits better in his respective band than Dave A.

Laura Burhenn is another all time favorite. Obviously. And I REALLY wanted her on my team. I'm frankly still a little bitter about it, but I'll try not to hold it against Stip, ultimately. I would love to hear her do a cover of Purple Rain (or any other number of Prince tunes). But I wonder if the pick isn't a little lost in the context of AiE.

Prince is a god and a living legend. Billy C has never done much for me. But I do actually think these two could make some really fantastic songs together. I'd love to hear them collaborate. And it's a pretty ballsy combo. Kudos to Stip for stretching and thinking outside the box here.

I think where this thing really runs away is Nigel. I just don't see Leonard Cohen's place in AiE. As much as I love him, and as much as I love Stip for dreaming big, I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Maybe that's my fault. Nigel on the other hand absolutely ties together MfM. Big time. That's actually a pretty brilliant pick up for IHTP's team.
