Or is that the baseball reporters?
That's the show. Felger and Mazz is a good show most of the time, and the baseball reporters that mazz does right afterwards during the season is probably the best show they do. If you ever listen on the weekends Hardy and Trupiano is a hoot.
I love Tony without Mike. Baseball Reporters is always on during my drive home. It's not surprising that it's so good given Tony's background in baseball journalism. He shines.

So at what point is it prudent for the sox to explore what they could get for guys like Lester? I say if their position in the standings isn't improved by July 1st, start shopping Lester, lackey, koji, drew(if anyone wants him,) and maybe pierzynski or Ross if someone needs a catcher.

Numbers, that's a great question.

I'd be fine with the Sox becoming "sellers," unloading their assets and going with youth with the understanding that we may have 2-4 years of sub .500 baseball.

The reward, years from now, could be a young, talented team with its stars locked up in team friendly contracts, and thus poised for a few runs at the World Series. I'm not a big fan of "the Sox have to compete every year" mentality, as much as it pains me to see them play so poorly.

With the Rangers pitching issues (Harrison's career maybe over, Perez having TJ surgery and Holland still out) I'd love to see Texas (my MLB team) trade for Lester. It sounds like Boston kinda low balled him with an offer? I'm not 100% sure. Dude has been a horse. I'd love to have him in Arlington and they definitely have the farm to make this trade.

Lester's a free agent after the season, right? That might make even more sense for a team like Texas who may just be looking to get themselves through the season (and hoping they have at least some luck with injuries next year) as opposed to adding someone with more years of control.

I've kind of come to the conclusion that they are right to be low-balling him. If he's ok with signing one of their discount deals then fine, but I wouldnt give him the contract Scherzer turned down, and that seems to be what he's shooting for.

I'm almost positive Lester is a FA at the end of the season.

I really don't understand Boston's thinking with Lester. The dude is a horse. He is battle tested as well. He might not be an ace but he is a really really good #2. Why not lock him up if you are Boston? The cupboard is not too full starting pitching wise.

Scherzer, Lester, Shields and even Masterson will get big contracts next year. Teams will overpay for durable starting pitching. I will be thrilled if the Rangers land one of these 4 in free agency next year. I'd bet good money they will.

The worst thing about them lowballing Lester is that if he was a free agent from another team, they'd pay 20 million more than they needed to to make sure they got him

They should just offer him 20 mil a year for 5 or 6 years and get it done.

Agreed. If I was Daniels (Rangers GM) I'd go 5/$100 million. I doubt we (yes I say we) will want to spend that much money though. Drawing well though and tv contract money is rolling in so who knows. Daniels has tried to trade for Shields a few times as well.

This is true, even though I am on the side of lowballing this particular player, their history of paying twice as much to replace players for players of lesser talent is awful.

To be fair, didn't Lester invite the low ball offers a bit with his comments about a hometown discount, which I understand he has since re-phrased, but still....
