At least once a week I'll look at the phrase "Post-Riot Act Moneygrab" and laugh out loud. It never stops being great.

I didn't even think of the name of the thread when I made my last post :/

Sad to think we can all circle the same time everything went to shit.

Somehow this is all Beth's fault.

Ed definitely upgraded, but he sold his soul (and credibility) to do so... Still, probably worth it for him.

I'm just saying, the chick from Hovercraft landing a model is waaaaaay more impressive than the dude from Pearl Jam landing a model.

Like a crazy obsessed fan, in 1997 or 1998 I saw Hovercraft in New Orleans my first couple years in college. They played a bar that had maybe 100 people in it. And of course I went up to Beth after to tell her how much I loved Pearl Jam. I only talked to her for 1 minute and told her I knew about the band because of my love of Pearl Jam but genuinely enjoyed the show and then immediately let her be. She probably went into a corner and cried after.

God I was a loser. Ok, I'm still a loser.

I'm sure she loved that.

No, Pearl Jam were pretty great once, but Hovercraft made some legitimately interesting music in their own right. I'm jealous that Matt saw them.

I've made this point before but I do think Beth's influence on both Ed's public persona and his music is frequently understated.

I saw Hovercraft open for the Foo Fighters and Mike Watt. Ed was on drums. Didn't help much. The Foos slayed. Their first tour, before the debut album, even. Small club. Maybe 300 people, packed in like sardines. Good times.

Hovercraft improved a great deal when they got a competent drummer.

Their second album (Experiment Below) is particularly good.

Whoa! I saw Hovercraft and Brad in the same week, back in '97 in Dallas... Hovercraft was basically like Sonic Youth, but no singing, and not the foggiest of ideas how to play their instruments. They had no songs... Just 45 minutes of noise, without stopping. Beth's role the whole night was to pluck one or two bass strings and see what happened next. They were TERRIBLE!

Brad, on the other hand... :bammer:

Stone was wearing a VH pendant on his necklace, and they played 'Change' for the encore!

Yes Spenno, definitely. I'm sure the pro choice stance and a lot of the early stances were from his relationship with Beth.
