"Waking Season" is all sorts of awesome. "Gone In Bloom and Bough" kills me.

I'll give them credit for trying to create a mood, it was nice in parts but I felt the album as a whole still too much of what makes that kind of post-rock boring.

I enjoyed it a lot. Still lean towards the Four Trees though

Got to see these guys last week with Junius and Native. Always a great show and thye are always really good dudes.

Heathen, what type of instrumental rock do you usually lean towards? just curious how blanket your "this type of post-rock" is.

The usual sounds like Explosions comparison or are you going beyond that?

yeah I meant EITS and the like

I guess I grew I bit bored of post-rock as a whole now. Last year the only album I really liked that could be described as instrumental rock was GY!BE. As far as instrumental music goes today I'm more interested in drone/ambient, modern classical etc. Things with a bit more tension or darkness, a cinematic vibe is great too. Either that or trippy/spacey rock.

Can you give some examples of post rock you have listened to? There is still a great deal of excellent instrumental rock out there that is not boring. EITS is boring.

nice. i was looking forward to this album. tertia didnt do much for me. too much ambiance and melody and not enough 'crunch' like four trees. i personally think post rock has to be on the heavier side to work well.

gotcha. i just have trouble with that tag. Guess I understand why it's there but ya know...

there should probably be an instrumental thread in here. So we can touch on different sub genres and whats good, etc. Meant to start that a while back

I've heard quite a few. Off the top of my head most of the big names like Mono, GYBE, EITS, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Russian Circles, God Is An Astronaut, Grails, Red Sparowes, Caspian, Hammock, Ef, Yndi Halda and a ton of smaller bands as well. And don't get me wrong I do like some of them (Grails, early Sigur Ros, Russian Circles, GYBE, Yndi Halda and I'm forgetting a few others as well), it's just that today I have little patience for crescendo rock.

sad sad news today. Bassist Chris "Freddie" Friedrich passed away unexpectedly this Sunday.
I was fortunate enough to get to know him well over the past years and he was such a kind soul. We've lost a good one here
