Yeah, but they'd obviously give all of their profits to charity.
No, a portion of their profits.

FUCKING NO!
It's amazing. I'll upload it and send it over to you sometime tonight. I just have to plug my external hard drive in. I never even listen to the regular album version anymore.
:peace:

Thanks, brother. I'd appreciate it.

I've got a lot of cool Rilo Kiley stuff if you're interested. I'm not sure if you're a live recording kinda guy, but I've got a couple of shows that are just Jenny and Blake that are great listens.

I suspect there aren't too many, which is why I think this thread and these conversations are mostly a proxy for expressing unhappiness with the music.
There's obviously a pretty considerable crossover between people who don't like the band's current music and don't like these other things too but I don't think that's necessarily enough to conclude that the latter can be dismissed entirely; I think it's a genuine factor, just not a major or determinative one.
I'm pretty sure the relationship is the reverse of what stip implied. If they were releasing No Code today and doing this shit, I'd probably be annoyed. At some level or point of degree, merch-pushing becomes implicit of a reductionist perception of or caustic attitude towards your own music and the impact it has on people.

But when they're farting out rehashes, tired formula, and terrible sounds, all this "money it's what I want" campaigning becomes just about the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Cool. I will upload some of the better shows I have. I'm not a bootleg guy at all, but there are two specific Rilo Kiley bootlegs I legitimately listen to regularly.

I second this.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

I think Simmons is wrong to reduce the music to the merchandise, but the merchandise is a reflection of the commitment you have to the music.
"Merchandise is a reflection of the commitment you have to the music" is both a very vaseline-lensed version of the relationship between these massive marketing ventures and the band's occasional music-making, and indicative of a level of pessimism about love and life that not even I stoop to.

I bet you think people who enjoy rockband should just learn to play the guitar.
