I was apeshit gaga for their first LP last year and their second is no slouch either. Top 5 material here.
Really enjoying this album. I love the Ian Curtis thing the lead singer has going on.
Yeah, my ladyfriend noticed the same thing when we saw them last week. I really hear alot of Mark E Smith too. They also do a pretty cool over of The Stooges' Down on the Street.

I'm starting to think The Holy Bible and Journal for Plague Lovers are the only Preachers stuff I'll ever be into.

New Nels Cline, Pixies and Survival Knife out this week.

Good times, though I'll add my usual frustration that it's nigh-on impossible to find lossless downloadable copies of any of them: it's all LP, CD or MP3. The Pixies LP album is available on Boomkat in FLAC for £10 but that's a staggering $20 AUD (or so).

It's consistently mind-boggling that it seems so hard to find a legitimate way to source a simple FLAC copy of an album; I would much prefer to buy an album, particularly by an artist I've long been a fan of, than download it illegally but there's often no other option.

It seems silly but it's a genuine moral dilemma I struggle with as someone who: a. isn't a vinyl enthusiast, b. isn't particularly interested in purchasing CDs either (for reasons of space as well as exorbitant postage costs to Australia), c. actually cares about sound quality and d. wants to ensure that the artists who've made the music are suitably compensated.

What's the alternative - just don't listen to music? It's nuts.

Buy the CD, rip the FLACs, give it away/sell it for cheap.

The kind of stuff I'd want to listen to (see above) isn't necessarily easy to source over here, however; I'd probably find the Pixies CD but little chance of stumbling upon the Nels Cline or Survival Knife releases in a local store.

Even if I were to order them from elsewhere, the cost of postage of a CD from the UK/US makes it seem like a futile exercise, particularly if I'm going to be getting rid of the CD immediately afterward. If I were to buy the new Nels Cline CD from Amazon, I'll end up paying $26 AUD once postage has been factored in. I have gone down that road in the past but it feels needlessly inconvenient when I don't really want the CD and I'd be perfectly happy to pay for a digital copy; for the sake of comparison, the MP3s of Macroscope are available on Nels' online store for $9.*

* The inflation of prices for digital goods in Australia is a tangential gripe: the album is $9.99 on the US iTunes store yet $16.99 AUD on the Australian store ($15.76 USD).
