I guess another thing that vexes me is the obsession with merchandise that some fans have. The amount of hate spewed about that stupid backpack selling out was amazing. (Or not being notified far in advance that it was going on sale)

Take this a step further. What baffles me is when I get to a show and see the plethora of fans that are essentially dressed up as Eddie Vedder. In TB2K, a few clips had Vedder wearing a striped sweat band around his forearm. In 2003, every third dude in his mid-20s was then sporting the sweat band, along with a identically cropped beard. It's like KISS, only everyone's dead serious.

As stated in the OP, I wanted this thread to be "Pearl Jam fan opinions you legitimately can't understand", not just "Pearl Jam fan opinions you disagree with." The latter is a really boring conversation to have for the umpteenth time.
I am baffled by your love for Evacuation. Worst 3rd song in Pearl Jam's catalouge.

Hilarious. its also usually the over weight sweating ones that attempt the look.

I love evacuation so much. Binaural pearl jam is a complete 180 from No Code/Yield pearl jam but it was the perfect type of Pearl Jam moving forward from previous eras. Unfortunately, they took a massive detour from that point as well :(

You have the music tastes of a 14 year old in 1997!

Funny - I agree with both of these. When I went to the Ed concert in London my friend and I played "spot the era" which involves guessing the approximate year of Ed's life that the person is apeing. The amount of beards was entirely disproportionate to the population and there was one guy with long hair, doc martins, long combat shorts and, I kid not, a Minor Threat t-shirt. The most popular seemed to be 2006 Eddie though.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

If I ever see someone in the crowd wearing a royal blue Celebration t-shirt, I am calling them out on the spot.

theplatypus wrote: For me, it's the constant hate that songs like "Gods Dice" and "Green Disease" get. A lot of people hate these songs very passionately and I just don't get it. I'm not saying they're great songs, just that they fall within the scope of (what I feel is) a style most Pearl Jam fans would enjoy (loud, fast, melodic) as evinced by their reactions to other songs in a similar vein ("Hail Hail", "Worldwide Suicide").
In the PJ catalog of loud, fast, melodic songs, what tier would Gods Dice fall into in your opinion?

The hate for songs like: Big Wave, Johnny Guitar, Get Right, Supersonic, Ole, Green Disease, and some others. I've read many varying opinions, and of course I'm not attacking all of them, but these songs share a quality: irreverance. I believe alot of PJ fans don't get irreverent songs b/c of the era we came up in ie. alternative music "Grunge revolution" whathaveyou where everything has to be an "important" statement Like a song can't be good unless it's all gritted teeth, "deep" lyrics, and flush epic arrangements. I think somewhere along the way the band felt they wanted simple and melodic and punchy and wanted to put there energy and craft in to these qualities get some songs like that. I for one like those songs and believe it takes alot of skill and artistry to make a song sound so tossed off, and they harken back to the great lost garage rock while still sounding fresh and doing some really cool things in those songs. I do get that some of them may not be the greatest pieces of art ever, but I've seen them get alot of underserved hate.
