I've heard that stuff. They usually describe them as songs written by people learning how to write songs, and that seems pretty accurate to me. I do really like the rerecorded All the Right Friends, though.

But beyond that, arms of love, photograph, great beyond, bad day, and we all go back to where we belong nothing jumps out. A few fun covers.

AFTP is great and all but I can think of a few REM records that I'd rank ahead of it. Reckoning and NAIHF come to mind.

It's my second favorite album of all time, and I would make a pretty serious argument that it us the greatest of all time, period.
Automatic for the People is just absolutely fucking stunning.
It absolutely fucking is. And still isn't my favorite REM album. From any years.

End of the World and One I Love are the only two songs I can really listen to on Document. Well, that's not true. I CAN listen to all of them. But those are the only two that I enjoy, that stand out beyond background noise and connect with me.

New Adventures is a majestic record. Easily one of the best of its decade.

Dead letter doesn't show up on lists like this too often...

I go back and forth on whether or not I like Monster more than Automatic. Usually Automatic wins. But every once in a while...

I'd put it ahead of Automatic. Monster brings the fuzz.

The Out of Time-Automatic-Monster-Hi Fi run is about as good as it gets.

Expand that to include Green and Up.

Expand that to include Murmur through Reveal. Honestly if Around the Sun didn't get in the way you could include everything.

Accelerate is one of their very best records

I think I like Up more than Accelerate. But it's been a LONG time since I listened to Accelerate all the way through.
