Create your PJ record per member
PJ is a band with 5 guys each bringing in songs, which is probably the biggest reason why they sound they way they do. Where most band have a principle songwriter this band does not. I thought of a fun game where you create your PJ record which is indeed written by a principle songwriter. So, create your own PJ record (max 12 songs) per member.
Let's focus on the Matt Cameron era for now, so everything post-yield counts. Mike and Matt are simple, for the others you are forced to make a selection.
The Matt record:
01-In the moonlight
02-You Are
03-Unemployable
04-Evacaution
05-Fixer
06-Get Right
07-Johnny Guitar
08-Cropduster
The Mike record:
01-Save You*
02-Comatose
03-Mind your Manners
04-Marker in the Sand
05-Force of Nature
06-Down*
07-Light Years*
08-Sirens
09-Come Back^
10-Inside Job
*= all group (more members) effort but in interviews it has been stated that the mainriffs are written by Mike.
^=joint written by Mike & Ed
The Jeff record:
01-Nothing as it seems
02-Gods Dice
03-Ghost
04-Olé
05-Got Some
06-Army reserve
07-My fathers son
08-Pendulum^
09-Infallible^
10-Sleight of hand
11-Otherside
12-Yellow Moon
^=joint written by Jeff & Stone. But with Jeff as principle songwriter.
The Stone record:
01-Of the girl
02-Strangest Tribe
03-Rival
04-Amongst the Waves
05-Parachutes
06-Thin Air
07-Life Wasted
08-Supersonic
09-Fatal
10-All or none
11-Wasted Reprise
The Ed record:
01-Can't Keep
02-Grievance
03-Worldwide Suicide
04-I am Mine
05-Man of the Hour
06-Severed Hand
07-Insignificance
08-Education
09-Off the Earth
10-Swallowed Whole
11-Sad
12-Parting Ways
Interesting way of looking at the songs. I feel that Ed & Jeff have made the best record, by far in my opinion. Bot are chronologically skewed, not much post avocado on the Ed record and lot's of it on Jeff's. Time for a new powerstruggle? Take that glove Jeff!! On the otherhand 2000-2006 was a amazing creative stretch for Eddie. The Stone record is not even close to Jeff´s or Eddie´s but I have a feeling he will be the winner (by a landslide) for the 1990-1998 (Pre-Binaural) era.

Re: Create your PJ record per member
sorry...kinda like my own game haha. So, already made a pre-binaural set. Bit trickier since Vs/Vitalogy are credited to all members, but Ive done some reading. It seems like the principle songwriters are as follows: Go (Stone/Dave), Animal (Stone), Daughter (Stone), Glorified G (Mike), Dissident (Stone), WMA (Jeff/all), Blood (Stone/Dave), RVM (Eddie), Rats (Jeff/all), Smalltown (Eddie), Leash (Stone/Jeff), Indifference (Stone/Jeff), last Exit (Stone), STBC (Stone), NFY (Eddie), Tremor Christ (Stone/Jeff), Nothingman (Jeff), Whippin (Eddie), Corduroy (Eddie), Satans Bed (Stone), Betterman (Eddie), Immortality (Eddie).
Ok, here it goes (I will not include a Abrruzese/Irons one)
the Mike record:
01-Brain of J
02-SOLAT
03-Glorified G
04-Presenttense
05-Red Mosquito *
06-Given to Fly
07-Faithfull
08-Let me Sleep
09-Yellow Ledbetter
*=credited to all. Guessing based on Mccready riffs.
the Jeff record:
01-Why Go
02-Rats
03-Nothingman
04-Jeremy
05-Pilate
06-Lowlight
07-Push me Pull me
08-WMA
09-Smile
10-Master/slave
the Ed record:
01-Long Road
02-RVM
03-NFY
04-Smalltown
05-I got Shit
06-sometimes
07-habit
08-Deadman
09-Immortality
10-Betterman
11-Porch
12-Off he goes
the Stone record:
01-Once
02-Alive
03-Footsteps
04-Animal
05-Evenflow
06-Last Exit
07-Do the Evolution
08-Hail Hail
09-Alone
10-No Way
11-In My Tree
12-Black
Like predicted, Stone is the clear winner here for me with Eddie as a close second. When I compare the two eras. I notice that all members have wrote memoral tunes but Stone has dropped a lot in the second era. Whereas Ed, Jeff en Mike stayed at their game and I find it hard to choose between their songselections I have made it was very easy to pick the better Stone set of songs. When trimbed down to two 12 songs selection I found both eras equally good, allthough I prefer the first era by a mile, its because there are just more good songs to me. More real good Stone songs. ALot of what Stone touched between 1988 and 1998 turned into gold. So many great songs here also with MLB, ToTD and Brad. A real man on a mission in era I, a real family man in era II

Plus ''Thin Air,'' ''All Those Yesterdays,'' and ''All or None.'' This guy pretty much owned my favorite era of the band.theplatypus wrote:Stone EP:

yes, that's what noticed me aswell.stip wrote:Stones declining output is really striking
If you're a fan who's in the 'they used to be much better' group. You can truly say: 'It's Stone's fault....'.
The weird thing is that when you look at the Brad records you see the same pattern.
For a man who was the main songwriter (or had most contributions) in Green River, Mother Love Bone, Ten, Vs, Vitalogy and Yield, it's very striking. Seems that there's a pre-bayleaf and post-bayleaf Stone. The first one was on a creative peak that lasted more than a decade. The second one is a settled happy man, who lost the creative powerstruggle to Ed and is ok with that. Fully enjoying his place in the band, a true founder who looks at what he has build.
I for one miss his creative dominance, but looking at his Era II output it seems clear that it might not be lacking in quality(up for debate) but it does in quantity.

Stop denying it guys, Stone died and they replaced him with a lookalike.

Matt didn't even write The Fixer. He came up with the riff in the verse...that's about it. He wrote about as much of Save You.
