Yeah, at this point "shitty but it fits I guess" is far more likely than "wow cool that's super interesting," because the style is so predetermined and limited.
On a plus side, I will say that the new cast is as far away from this
as anybody could have possibly dreamed that it would be, given the influences at play.
But all of my doubts source from JJ and the inclusion of the original cast, so...
it will create its own bullshit, but people will be so thrilled at the lack of established bullshit that they will act like the new bullshit is just kind of okay stuff, and each of these movies will receive a free four month span of "it was a good movie I wasn't expecting much so was fine with what I got" and will do exceptional business as a slow-weekend rental.

I remember being so excited when that came on the screen for TPM - then walking out of the theater thinking 'what the fuck was that - I really want to like it, but I can't'
"I really enjoy sandwiches but the other guys are so good at making sandwiches that I don't make them. Now I make sandwiches."

Exactly. Kind of like every new PJ release, I'm trying to maintain low expectations.
But I'm also hoping for my boy's sakes, that the new movies are at least better than ROTS. If episode VII is worse than TPM, I'll understand if my boys convert to Star Trek instead.

I wonder if you went into something with the idea of possibly enjoying it, you may actually...wait for it....enjoy it....
There has to be more than one prequel element. Probably an alien or something. I'm sure it's a Disney imperative to throw in a few things for the kiddies.

They'll have to be careful with that. Lucas tried that with JarJar...

I don't mean kiddie characters. I imagine Disney thinks The target audience is made up mostly of children who've only seen the prequels. And loser fat nerds, but they already have their money.
