I'll put up a randomized bracket once drafting is done. We'll start voting once its up.
We'll need to have 4 of the 10 teams in an extra round of matches. I'll be one of those teams. I'll draw the other 3 randomly

I'm so glad to hear you say that. I feel the exact same way.stip wrote:this is one of my favorite IRS years songs and I am appalled that it took so long for someone to fix itdurdencommatyler wrote:For my final pick, since I have to have something from Fables:

Aftermath seems like a good note to end upon. A really nice song live.
This was fun! Thanks to everyone who joined in. There are some really nice lists out there and I think pretty much everyone snagged at least one song that was at or near the top of my list. Special thanks for stip for cat herding duties. Onward!

I almost picked Low. Stipe sings the hell out of it and I really like the song. I didn't think it fit in as well with my other songs as "Endgame," but I was wavering. I literally flipped a coin to make the final call.stip wrote:I'm surprised low lasted this long.

All and all, I've over the moon about my team. I love the songs I was able to snag. There's only one song on me team that I'm lukewarm on. Everything else I genuinely like or love.

I was set to take Low once you snagged Endgame. I only changed my mind because SHP fit my mood perfectly when my turn to pick again rolled around.PryTo wrote:I almost picked Low. Re: REM song tournament DcT
This song rules. It was on my very short list for wild card songs. I love their version. Wasn't it on the end of the world soundtrack? Anyway, I'll be curious to see what all of the wildcard picks turn out to be.durdencommatyler wrote:First We Take Manhattan
If we do this again, I think Dead Letter Office/Chronic Town could be counted as a 16th album. There are plenty of gems on there to choose from and it would make the wild card picks that much more interesting. I couldn't not pick something from Chronic Town, but I had to cast aside a lot of great tunes to snag it.

In a perfect world, SHP would always fit one's mood better than Low. Such is life that this is not always the case.durdencommatyler wrote:I was set to take Low once you snagged Endgame. I was in the same boat. Some of my least favorite Hi-Fi songs got scooped up early and some of my favs are still available. I'm mixed on that album. It has some of my all-time favorite REM songs but about half of it does nothing for me. It was the first album they released that was not, like, my favorite album of the year. I kept listening to it and wondering when it was going to sink in. Never did. But the good stuff on it is as good as anything in the catalog -- just seems like I'm at odds with others as to which songs those are. I think most of us would agree on Electrolite.stip wrote: I was thinking of holding off on taking a song from Hi-Fi until the very end just because it's so deep. There are still 3 songs from Hi-Fi I'd be happy to have

I can't believe my second-favorite, non-REM-proper-album song is on the verge of not being picked (again!).

Re: REM song tournament: PryTo 16
I'm the opposite, Pry.
Hi-Fi was the first REM album that me stand up and take notice. And I adore every song on that thing. I struggle with a lot of the REM catalog. They have some truly phenomenal songs, but they don't have a lot of albums that I love. Hi-Fi, Automatic and Collapse are excellent. Up and Monster are really, really good, but each have songs I don't care for. Everything else is really uneven, I think.
Which is further evidence that I really don't belong in an REM thread, let alone a tournament.

Well, I really dig Pageant, too. That's a pretty solid record through and through. I'd rank it with Up and Monster.

Aftermath is one of those songs I kinda liked when ATS came out, and came to like a lot more once we had accelerate and it was easier to appreciate Aftermath for what it isPryTo wrote:Aftermath seems like a good note to end upon. A really nice song live.

Collapse Into Now is the late-career album that really does it for me. I don't mind Around the Sun and I've been liking Accelerate more and more recently, but I'm pretty much obsessed with Collapse Into Now right now.stip wrote:just give accelerate a few more listensdurdencommatyler wrote:Well, I really dig Pageant, too. Slim pickings left on Collapse...not sure what I'm gonna go with, but I only have 3 songs to choose from.
