Both matches pretty close, but Stip and Phil for me.

Although I have found chud, stip, and you to have good face-combing tunes in Belong, Losing My Religion, and At My Most Beautiful, respectively, I have found nothing comes close to the sublime feelings of self-awareness that my Tongue-Be Mine-Suspicion run give me.

Phil's team is really great, too. I had a really hard time voting in either match-up. Ultimately, Be Mine, Sidewinder and (especially) Fretless, won out.

And Stip and Pete were neck and neck. It was a genuine tie in terms of album "wins." But Stip had Losing My Religion and Leaving which are two of my absolute favorites.

It hurts voting against any team, though. Everyone did a fantastic job.

What is with everyone's love affair with Losing My Religion?

yeah, it really is

Plus it has maybe the gayest video of all time, so it probably deserves bonus points for that.

Stip
Kaius

In fairness, Chud's team is so strong. would have advanced his team vs phil and Kaius.

Stip has a ton of my favorites: You are the Everything, Losing My Religion, Leave, Try Not To Breathe, Finest Worksong are all in my REM top 25 I think.

My votes:
CHUD
Phil

Dear goodness....that Chud v. Stip match-up was heartbreaking. Such a tough call, really a coin toss. But the edge goes to Chud, whose selections are a smidgen better. Also, extra points to Chud because he's a newcomer to the full REM catalog and his thoughts and comments about some of the earlier tunes had me revisit those, and I just want to thank him for that, specifically Harborcoat, a song I overlooked.

I don't have much to add about the other match-up.

Yeah, that's my take too on chud v. stip.

I really love the 'Up' selection from chud; "Hope" is such a cool song. It and my pick (Why Not Smile) might be my favorites on that album. I also really like "World Leader Pretend"; it may be my favorite on Green.

Stip had some really solid tunes too: Losing My Religion, So. Central Rain, Finest Worksong, and Star 69 are all favorites of mine.

phil vs. kaius...

I really like the following phil picks: Just A Touch, Me In Honey, and The Lifting. I also like the 9-9 picks...it's really a nice foreshadow of things to come on the following albums.

kaius, i like: Suspicion, I've Been High, Texarkana, 11th Untitled Song, and maybe one of my favorites 7 Chinese Brothers.

11th Untitled seems to be well regarded around here, but I'm glad those others are getting some love. Those are truly favorites of mine. Suspicion and IBH are high points on their records. 7 Chinese Bros is a personal favorite and I think a bit under appreciated (probably my #2 only behind Harborcoat). Texarkana is understandably a bit lost on the powerhouse OoT, but it's a fantastic display of how good the band is without Stipe behind the wheel.

That's the first time I've heard that, but he did right to write new lyrics. I definitely prefer 7CB.
