Hold On (acoutic is even worse) is insidious. it fools you into thinking it's somewhat good while it really sucks.Thejambi wrote:Yeah, it's not even close.Lament wrote:Truth.bodysnatcher wrote:nothing is as lame as Future Days.

Future Days wears its suckiness on its sleeve.
and i personally think that it's not that bad a song. it's not my cup of tea at all, mind you, but its biggest fault is its Brendeanobrienization.

Speed of Sound is a legitimately good song that has gotten consumed by RM hyperbole and lore.

Vs. major flaw is obviously Leash. I'd rather listen to Future Days everyday than hear Leash ever again.

none are favorites, but I'd rather listen to any of those than, say, In Hiding .Birds in Hell wrote:Oh good heavens no.Got Some wrote:Speed of sound sucks worse than both IMHO!!!

My emotional reaction to Speed Of Sound has now lifted Backspacer to number two all time.

Re: What is Each Album's Major Flaw?: Vs.
This is pretty flawless IMO.
WMA and Glorified G work in the context of the album, but I guess are slightly weaker on their own. But I'm nitpicking.
And what's with all the hate for Leash?! It's in my top 10 PJ songs. So what if the lyrics are a bit naive, its the songs structure and kick-ass-ness that sells it for me.
The record has the best opener and best closer of any PJ record. And everything in between is nothing less than very good. What more can you ask?!

Absolutely no flaws. Except maybe that there aren't 15-20 songs on this album. PJ at its best. If you have any complaints about Vs. go blast yourself.

I don't know that I can find a major flaw in Vs. Even the length of it is just about perfect. It's my favorite PJ album after Yield.
It's in a lot of ways the definitive classic Pearl Jam album. There's a great deal more variety in the music and the production is much cleaner and less-dated sounding than Ten. The energy on Vs. is ridiculous and the band has never been able to quite match it since.

Re: What is Each Album's Major Flaw?: Vs.
Glorified G is just a great groove. It's actually a really simple riff in D but Stone just milks it for all it's worth and makes it sound like so much more. Mike's outro solo is one of his best album solos in my opinion.Lament wrote:The part where Stone comes in on backing vocals on Glorified G is one of the most dementedly fun moments of their career. Glorified G gets a pass in my book solely for that. It's a shame they don't utilize Stone's voice in that manner more frequently.
I never skip Glorified G or Dissident but WMA gets a pass sometimes just because of it's length (though I still like it's tribal sounding weirdness).

It's the record that made me a fan too. I dubbed a friend's tape in 1995 and then finally picked up the CD in 1996 so I was pretty late to the party.hlniv wrote:Vs = Dave A = PJ record that made me a fan
Nuff said
I am a big Matt C. fan but Dave A. was definitely instrumental in crafting the PJ sound. He technically only got a few songwriting credits but his influence is everywhere on Vs and Vitalogy. The band would not sound the same without his influence (I'll bet you anything when Stone was writing DTE he was hearing Dave's drums in his head). Such a shame they couldn't bury the hatchet and get him involved with PJ20.
