I honestly thought that Grunge is Dead by Greg? Prato was better. It came before ELOT and has some different interview subjects. I'm not sure why Mark Yarm wrote his book after Prato's book came out.
Greg? Prato, BTW, is a great guy. He's been supplying me stuff for the Soundgarden Live Guide for years.

I thought both books were worth reading, but they were absurdly similar, including the oral history format. My guess is that the books were under contract at the same time. Yarm posted from time-to-time on the official and I think said something like he interviewed a lot more people. I'd say, read them both but space them out over a year or two so that you're not experiencing deja vu. If you're only going to read one, I don't think it really matters which one you pick.

Me three. I liked Prato's book more because it didn't skirt around the drug issues in the scene. ELOT felt a bit light weight at times and trying to please people in the scene. I did enjoy them both though. There was another a book about the pre-Nevermind era Seattle doing the rounds at the same time as ELOT. It was a very academic type of read but I really loved it.Birds in Hell wrote:Agreed.matt reeder wrote:I honestly thought that Grunge is Dead by Greg? Prato was better. Entertain Us - The Rise and Fall of Alternative Rock in the 90's by Craig Schuftan was also a fantastic read. Very impressive author.

Just ordered Grunge is Dead and Strangest Tribe.
Amazon didn't have paperback of Entertain Us.
As suggested I will space them out.
