Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

These are pretty much all what I've been looking for - thanks, Strat! The only one I'd already heard was Japandroids (which is great).

Mac DeMarco is pretty great (though the album tapers off, for me).

Lost in the Dream is a kick-ass album as well, despite being the reason for this thread. But I only really started listening yesterday, so I've got tons to get through.

All my friends went to a clutch show here last week. It's a bit too heavy/tuneless for my taste

You can try these:

Savages
Yuck
PS I Love You
Frightened Rabbit
Real Estate
The Thermals

But my favorite band of the last 5 years is this:

Australia, dude. You can throw a rock down there and hit a ton of great bands.

ABNorman wrote:I binge-downloaded a bunch of albums topping Metacritic and this forum (eg bands: Deafheaven, Julia Holter, Mac DeMarco, Mogwai, Ought, Owls, Parquet Courts, Silversun Pickups, Steve Gunn, The Antlers, The War on Drugs).

I haven't listened to them all, but I've got through a few, and they largely seem to slot into that reverby, mid-tempo, lofi-ish "indie" thing that everybody's digging right now. Which is cool - I can dig it. But sometimes I just want to be gripped by my balls and shredded by a good ol' instantly-accessible rawk song - something where you can tell the band is actually having fun, rather than being all 21st-Century post-modern.

Suggestions? The last couple of albums I really got into on the rock side were Blunderbuss (Jack White) and Nico Vega.
Curious: what Mogwai did you get?

Also, have you listened to the Ought album, yet? It touches on a few of the "indie" qualities that you mention, but overall, I find it to be the opposite of that detached, ironic sense you're describing. It's got its share of mellow moments, but there's a lot of good groove-oriented rock in there, with a number of unhinged moments as well.

A bit of a step down from their last album, but rocks anyway.

This is quite good. I went ahead and purchased the digital download on a whim last night and was more than pleased with my decision considering I didn't bother to preview any of it.

So, thanks to some of youse guys, and a few other places, I've been working my way through about 50 new albums (new to me, anyway).

Keepers so far:
Graveyard (Hisingen Blues) - such a good time
J. Roddy Walston & The Business
Mogwai (Rave Tapes) - I don't usually go for instrumentals, but this breezed by
Mooney Suzuki (Alive and Amplified) - Good, simple fun
Mac DeMarco (Salad Days)
Silversun Pickups (The Singles Collection)
Tune-Yards (Nikki Nack) - Holy shit, that voice
War on Drugs (Lost in the Dream)

I've also deleted some duds already, but I can't remember them really.

Tonight, I'm going to load up St Vincent, Swans and The Antlers and see how far I get.

Thanks, team!

No idea - never heard any of them, so I just picked a few albums at random from the big list to throw together.
