darth_vedder wrote:So what are the general thoughts on the post Berry albums around here? I think I like Up, Reveal, and Accelerate the best, but I still have a lot of listening and re-visiting to do. A bunch is still pretty new to me. Curious as to how y'all would rank them. Or if you don't feel like ranking, if you were putting together a best of REM: 1998 to 2011, what would you include?
i hate ranking, but this is actually pretty easy

Up
Collapse
Accelerate
Around The Sun
Reveal
I'd probably agree with this, but there's a giant gap between Up and Collapse.

It’s good to be an R.E.M. fan this week. In addition to the release of their 1991 and 2001 MTV Unplugged sets, and 50 rarities from their I.R.S. Records era, the band has let loose a whopping 131-track collection of B-sides, covers, live tracks, and non-album goodies. As the material’s culled from R.E.M.’s time at Warner Bros., the anthology’s aptly titled Complete Rarities: Warner Bros. 1988-2011.

Now THIS is how you treat your fans. I was listening to the 'Remnants' compilation just the other day and thinking how it would be good to continue it with the post 2004 rarities. Shame they're only mp3 though.

All we need now is that rumored box set of Christmas singles :nice:
I just noticed the 'only mp3' thing :) Now I'm less sure.

yeah. I've got an amazon gift certificate i'm not using, so I'll probably buy this unless it shows up on a torrent site. I'd purchase a hard copy in a second, even though I would immediately just convert them to digital files. It's the principle of the thing.

the 'I'm good, all is good/all's well, no complaints' may be a moment where i actually do cringe.

I dig The Apologist. The ghostly I'm sorry's throughout are stimulating.
I live a simple life, unfettered by complex sweets. You think this isn't me? That's so sweet. I'm so sorry

And if I were to rank the post-Berry material RIGHT NOW, I guess it'd look like this:
UP
Reveal

Collapse
Accelerate

Around the Sun

It seems I'm a bit higher on Reveal than anyone else. It's right up there with Up if you ask me. The only songs I would skip are Disappear, Summer Turns to High, and Chorus and the Ring. Everything else I take pleasure in.

the lyrics suck in this song too. The music is good. But I hate stipe in this one.
