And now the hour of
The thaw has begun
When frozen jewels
In rivulets run
Unmasking dour grey
Structures from
Neath the veil that
Last night had clung
In a loving embrace
Soon to be undone
In silent words
By the rising sun
And as beauty fails
And soon is gone
The lovers forget
And so move on

I always knew fitzy was a man ahead of his time!
I've finally started to think seriously about another novel, based on an idea I came up with four years ago. Unfortunately, my juices are starting to flow during the same time I'm starting on my doctoral dissertation. Oh, well, someday!
Related to that: I hope no one finds the bookmarks folder on my computer filled with articles about the maid in Boston who was sawed in half in 1996.

Do you sit down with an idea to write about, or do you just write and see where the muse takes you?Simple Torture wrote:I always knew fitzy was a man ahead of his time!

Re: Writing...
With this project, I'm not even at the "sitting down to write" stage yet. I'm basically emailing, texting, and blogging myself ideas and little snippets that pop into my head. But when I do right (whether it's creatively or for school), I do tend to have a workman like approach: I'll tell myself that I have to sit down and express a certain idea or write a certain number of pages and I won't quit until I do. Seems to work most of the time!Dscans wrote:Do you sit down with an idea to write about, or do you just write and see where the muse takes you?Simple Torture wrote:I always knew fitzy was a man ahead of his time!

SO I WROTE HALF A NOVEL 2 YEARS AGO. ON PURPOSE. IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR I WILL WRITE THE SECOND HALF. I WANTED A COMPLETE DIVORCE FROM THE CHARACTERS TO SEE WHAT I THOUGHT ABOUT THEM LATER. I COMPLETE THE FIRST DRAFT & LEFT IT. LOOKING FORWARD TO FINISHING IT.

Re: Writing...
I've got other things to do, but I'm working on a novel outline instead. Lots of documents...how do you guys organize stuff like this?

We've all got other things to do, pal.
Would it help to physically write the outline and just use the computer for the novel? Get super organized and use color coded index cards bro.

Re: Writing...
I just submitted two short stories that I wrote a year ago and recently revised. That's about the right amount of time I need to take away from my work.

Re: Writing...
I just work better on the computer for things like this now. I feel like it's not where I want to be (and I still do most of scholarly work with pen and paper now, which is weird), but I'm going to make the best of it I think I'll give Scrivener and Scapple another shot!

As I was writing that last post, I got an idea, but didn't write it down. Now it's gone. Them's the breaks!

My first short story has been accepted! Check out Thrice Fiction's upcoming December issue for the most mind-melting prose you'll ever experience.

Am I to believe that some of you are writers and such? What programs do you use and recommend, besides RM's "post reply" button?
